Try installing the OS that shipped with the computer. If it is an HP OEM version that you are installing on the HP computer for which it was designed then you should not have any problem. Otherwise, you need to buy a license from Microsoft, or the recovery disks for your computer from HP.

Testimonial: "Hello there I have got it fixed the solution was rather easy i just contacted hp and they informed me that even though i had a different hard drive i could still use the product number that was on the sticker on the bottom of the machine I did just that and yes it worked didnt have to reinstall anything"

if you have purchased legal copy of Vista, you will be having a Part Number on the Vista DVD. Call Microsoft Tech Support and provide them with this Part Number. they will get a new product key. This will work for you.

SOURCE: This computer did not pass genuine windows validation test.

It really is a nuisance for users with genuine products. This has also occurred to many people with MS Office 2003. It could however be caused by someone installing XP or Office that used a Corporate License that will require updating in a different way and not via the MS Auto Update procedure.

You can simply uninstall the MS update check that does the validation or return you machine to a known good state via the system, restore function. Look at your system history to see which update you need to uninstall and avoid reinstalling next time you get the option. So turn off auto updates and then make sure you control which updates are applied.

Also call the store where you bought the system if they are still in business.

SOURCE: Microsoft detects that my pc has not genuine copy of Windows 7

Hello,
Remove Windows & and reinstall you old software. Or buy a genuine copy of Windows 7. You can also install Linux, which you can get for free (Ubuntu will always be free.)

Hope it helps

SOURCE: Copy WIndows XP from one hard drive to another

Hi,

Why are wanting to clone your hard drive to another on when all you need to do is install Windows 7 directly onto the new hard drive?
Are you wanting to save all your settings and data before you install Win 7 over the top of XP?

New Hard Drive - can someone help please?

Yes, you could do that if you take the HD out if the laptop and install in the Desktop temporarily.

I wonder if the bad HD is still plugged in. If so, that could be your problem; make sure it's not connected and seen before the new HD.

Can you replace windows 8 with windows 7?

I should imagine you can
if you have the win 7 os disc and the registration key for the win 7 os it would be a mater of reformatting the hard drive ( copy and save all files and folders in the HD first to a separate hd) and then installing win 7 from scratch
I would take it to a computer geek and ask first and if it can be done then have him do it for you
It would be a disaster if you tried to install win7 on the same HD as there are compatibility issues so expert advice from a computer shop would be the way to go

I have an HP 8460p laptop that I purchased from my former employer. The operating system in Windows 7 pro 64 bit and the software will not recognize as genuine since the computer still thinks it is pa

Unless you know what you are dfoing, it will be more trouble than it is worth friend.
Your best bet is to purchase a new disc with Windows 7 64 bit and do a 'new install'. It will ask you to wipe the existing partitions and you can start anew using the full capacity of the Hard Drive.. Don't panic If you don't have a Product Key, you can download Win 7 installation discs all over the net; Win 7 WILL install and work fully, but will only give you 30 days to buy a Product key. before it locks you out.

I have a Seagate ST3200822AS 200 GB Hard Drive(windows XP).I want to use this as external but I don't want it to mix with HD on new computer(windows 7). How do I keep them separate and run one or the other...

Is the Seagate ST3200822AS an External Drive ( like USB connectivity ) or actual Hard Drive ? Even if it is Internal Hard Drive, You can make connect it to Win 7 and still keep it as Seperate Drive.

Connect the Hard Drive to Win 7 PC and Make it Slave ( partition ) by changing the Jumper on the Hard Drive ( jumper is a small pin or a lock that makes a Hard Drive Primary or Slave.

Once you connect the HD to Win 7, you will find new Drives Created in Win 7, this way you will differentiate between the Win 7 Drives and XP Drives

This link will how you the jumper position : Remove the jumper from slot 1 and put it in slot 2
