SOURCE: door locked/ cycle won't complete

If you need to get the washer door open, there is a manual release lever that you can use. The following links explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

Now, with your clothes rescued, the next link explains the "F11" error:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r666194-f11_error_whirpool_duet_kenmore_elite

I know it seems like a lot with the second link. In most cases I have found, the CCU is the cause of the F11 error code, but read through the information carefully and doublecheck everything. It can be replaced if you wish to perform the repair yourself. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: The washer fills just fine, but when it starts to

I do home inspections, and this is a no-no! GFI devices are not real happy with inductive loads, such as motors and refrigerators. Generally during home inspections, we find that GFI's older than 10 yrs. have a 75% failure rate using a sophisticated tester. The 5 yr. old devices are at 50%. I'd replace that outlet with a single outlet, dedicated to the washer. If it's near a sink, then you're required to stick with the GFI. I'd just repalce it with a new one. Good Luck!!

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question$$#$#

Will sometimes trip breaker when starting

Your compressor may not be unloading completely. Check for leak at intank check valve. Follow the airline from pump to tank. Remove the airline from he brass valve, with air in the tank spray soapy water to check for leak, replace as needed. If no leak the examing the pressure switch where 1/4 tubing connects. There you will find a small lever that opens a stem to unload air from airline. You can test the function by running the pump then switching off at the pressure switch, listen for release of air. If works ok then not enough power is reaching the compressor. Use very little or no cord and do not overload plug with other tools.

Have Kenmore top loading washer stock #24771 and it won't fill with water. Checked water lines and not clogged. What else could be the problem?

Other than water lines being clear, faucets turned on, and the strainers are clear (strainers are located right were the hoses connect to the washer), you are looking at a load size switch or a water level sensor failure. A tripped GFI may also be the culprit, as can a tripped circuit breaker.

Both are easily accessible, since they are located in the top part of the washer, in the control panel area.

You might try cycling the load selector switch back and forth, "clean the contacts so to speak". If it starts to work then, you will need a load switch assy soon.

Sears can print you out a diagram of your washer for assembly, and parts. If you have the full model #, you can plug it in at searspartsdirect.com

Pump plugged in to grounded receptacle trips the

If by "trips the breaker" you mean the GFI then you are leaking current to ground, GFI's trip when there is an imbalance between the current going to the motor on the HOT side and returning from the motor on the NEUTRAL side, if it is tripping the GFI it is likely the sign of a failing motor.

the gfci is defective from moisture even after they dry they can be defective, access the cord inside the machine and try a different cord and see if this is your problem, otherwise the pump motor could be bad,the bypass valve on the pump could be bad,if you could run it you could check current draw with an amprobe, but not if it wont start

When i plug it in it trips my gfi and it is not on

This can be caused by one of two things. (1) The GFI plug has a problem: it could be broken behind the face plate, or some of the wires in the box are so close that when you push a plug into the outlet, they touch and trip the GFI. (2) The other source is due to a defect in the appliance between the cord and the power switch. That is why the GFI faults even before it the coffee maker is turned on.

Have the outlet checked thoroughly and make any needed adjustments / repair /replacement and reconnect the coffee maker again. If it trips, the coffee maker will need to be serviced. DO NOT use the coffee maker in another non-GFI outlet until it has been checked out. The chances of electrical shock or burns is significant until the problem is found and corrected.

Gfi installed yesterday on washer 120 v outlet. washer is maytag 3 years old and gfi began tripping during washcycle. can it be washer 3 pronged cord is not grounded at connection in rear of washer?...

The ground not being connected does not tirp thr gfi. The gfi senses the current between the two legs it will trip when the current returning to ground (neutral) exceeds 5mili amps. This is for personal protection. If you have a gfi circuit breaker disconnect the black wire from the breaker, if it does not trip you likely have a groung fault in the washer. If you have a dryer or other metal object that is grounded (Bonded) you may get a shock from it, also standing (barefoot) on a concrete floor may cause the same. ( bonded is a gronded conductor that attaches all metal parts of a electrical curcuit together) a hot lead goes to ground is a dead short and will trip any breaker.

Trips GFCI receptacle for laundry circuit.

I ran into this problem with a washer this summer. the gfi breaker needs to be replaced. it is weak and trips easily. if you can run an extension cord to an outlet without the gfi andrun your washer, you probably will not have any issues. that is what I found with the washer this summer. when it was plugged into the gfi, itwould trip. but when I had it plugged into a regular outlet, it was fine.
