LaserJet 2840 Error 59.99

Error 59.99 - If I replace the Drum it works fine, no error so it is not the T2 clutch I took the drum apart and put it back together. Everything fits perfectly, just perfect. Any ideas why the drum might be causing the printer to throw this error?

Many drums have a chip with a lifecycle. You may need to replace the chip if you dont want to replace the drum.

I'm going to break down and get a new drum. This one has about 75% left on it though.

Okay, yes I have changed the chip, still get the same error. I do appreciate the suggestion very much.

For Flexer and Guest - The Imaging Drum Assy is the 5-th consumable for your printer. U can buy it as well as any toner cartridge. U can find it in the front of the 4 toner carousel with a green plastic cover. Push it to the back of the printer and pull it out straight up. The new one has orange stripes and plastics that you should remove. The Imaging Drum's life is about 20k pages (black with 5% coverage) and 5k page (colour 15% coverage)

Have you checked status for the drum using toolbox or solution center? Try clean the contacts on drum and opposite HV pins in printer.

Any chance you got a bad drum unit? It could be binding which would cause this error.

This means that the printer cannot read the E-Label on the cartridge, or it is not properly installed.

  1. Reinstalle the cartridge
  2. Power cycle the device
  3. If the problem is not solved, replace the cartridge. (Is the cartridge a remanufactured one? this can be a problem)
  4. Check if correct cartridge type.

HP 2840 : Error 59:99 T2 Clutch error

The problem you are having is with a clutch also known as CL2 or T2 Clutch. The part is available through HP at http//:partsurfer.hp.com. Just put in the part number RH7-5335-000CN and it will come right up for order. It cost 26.73 plus shipping.

The disassembly is a little intense but completely do-able with the service manual walking you through it. The clutch is part of the drive assembly on page 366 (#3). The diagram looks intimidating but its not as the full hunk can be taken off and then the clutch removed for replacement.

Here's a free copy of the manual:

Hope that helps you. If so hit it with a fixya!
