SOURCE: Need oil/grease for Hobart 20 qt. mixer

Hi. Your A200 is in need of service. The grease's lifespan has expired. There are two ways of doing this. First, the expensive way. Call for a Hobart Tech to come and service the mixer. This will take about 4-5hrs to service at a rate around $100.00usd per hour, plus the cost of parts. He/she will need to change all seals, remove old grease and oil, check all bearings and gears for excessive wear and replace as necessary, this includes the planetary gear.

Now for the affordable solution. Unplug the mixer, remove the top cover. Gently use a small screwdriver to pry off the two circular metal dust caps found on the transmission housing, use a good flashlight to determine, through these openings, the quality, quantity and condition of the grease inside the transmission case. If there's a lot of oil you can remove much of it a bit at a time by using a wire coat hanger to which you can attach bits of cloth to absorb as much oil as you can. Once oil is removed, add new grease through these same holes until full (Chevron FM ALC EP-2, food grade lube). Run the mixer for a couple of minutes to distribute the new grease. Fill to the top once again and replace dust covers. Remove planetary, clean, inspect change seal and re-grease.

OPTION (mechanically challenging) You can do a more thorough job by removing the trans. cover completely, removing the 3 gear shafts inspect all bearings and gears, change seals on mainshaft and planetary. Remove old grease and oil, clean gearshafts and gears. Parts drawings are available from www.hobartservice.com It's free to register and then locate your parts drawings. Be sure that you have the correct files for your Model #, ML# if there is one and Spec.#, all found on the info plate.

When disassembling, take a digital photo of every step and lay the removed components on a piece of cardboard in the removed sequence. These practices will become valuable during re-assembly.

SOURCE: I have oil coming from the front of a hobart a200

If you have oil leaking from the attachment hub, the transmission grease has liquified. The transmission will need to be opened so the old lubricant can be removed, by scooping it out. There aren't any seals in the attachment hub, just two torrington needle bearings. The helical gears thrust the pinion gear onto a thrust bearing in the hub to create a seal. The hub has a return hole in it's casting for excess lube to return internally. It's possible the return hole is restricted. On the other hand, if the machine has been filled with oil, it will probably leak like a siv.
The new lube should be 35 OZ of mobil XPH 222,
Hobart part number is 103881-47 for 32OZ.

What type of gear lube should I use for my Hobart H600 mixer?

Hi, btperduell

below is a copy of an e-mail from Horartservice.com. I searched the web forhours for the correct oil and could not find any info so I e-mailed Hobart. The Planetary is a different part from the transmission andthe sight glass on a M802 is for the oil in the transmission. The answer that Hobart gave is not an NSF oil. Ineeded the oil for the planetary section on a model M802. Even the directionssay that it is normal for a drop of oil to occasionally drip from the seal. That is where the dough hook attaches. I am in the process of researching the oil and Exxon / Mobildoes make a NSF version. I just need to find somewhere I can buy less then a 55-gallondrum. The above mixer only uses 6 ounces. Take care and stay safe Thank you Mike Hobart E-mail follows ============================================================== Mike, Hobartuses "EXXON SPARTAN EP-150 (6 oz)" in the M802 planetary. Hobart part #102973-13. This IS NOT a food grade oil. If you mixer is leaking you shouldhave it serviced. Service, parts , lubricants and information canbe obtained by contacting your local Hobartoffice in Pittsburgh@ (412) 788-5380. My d300 hobart mixer is dripping oil when I am using it. How can I stop the oil from dripping out

It uses grease which breaks down over time. The transmission has to opened up and all of the old lube removed and replaced with fresh lube and the bottom seal replaced. Contact your local Hobart office. www.hobartservice.com to locate your local office.

My Hobart D300 mixer appears to be leaking oil/grease

Hi,I'm a hobart tech and repair these mixer's often. If you see oil in the drip cup then the center shaft seal in the transmission is worn.If there is oil near the transformer then the motor shaft seal is also bad.Hobart doesnt release their service manuals to the public but if you go to their site www.hobartcorp.com you can register for free and get a parts manual thats helpful. If you need help with the repair let me know,i can step you through it.

How to find the age of a Hobart N50

Hi Anne. Call your nearest Hobart parts place. The parts guys will be able to tell you the age and which plant it was manufactured in in the USA. Another source is the hobartservice.com website, look for discontinued products under the food machines group, then select mixers and browse until you find the file that dates machines. One thing to watch for when buying is oil leakage that appears to come from the bottom of the stand. This indicates that the transmission grease is partially separating the oil out of it and it's leaking out of the rear bearing and dripping down. If the leak seems excessive, pass on the purchase. This drip could also indicate excessive wear on the bearings. Also run the mixer in all speeds, if is sounds like a tank approaching, it probably needs a rebuild.
