Once your computer and operating system are up and running, then plug the USB pen drive into an empty USB slot on your laptop.
You may have to wait a few moments while your computer detects this device and automatically installs the appropriate drivers for it, which should take no more than 30 seconds or so.
Now just click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop or navigate there manually.
Look in the section titled DEVICES WITH REMOVABLE STORAGE.
You should see your USB removable flash drive listed somewhere in that section. Just double click on its icon to open it up.
Now that the USB pen drive folder is open, you can just COPY and PASTE, or DRAG and DROP any document or file from your computer into that USB pen drive folder the same way you would transfer files to any other folder on your computer.
To copy files, just RIGHT mouse click on the file you want to copy, then select COPY from the drop down menu.
Then just RIGHT mouse click anywhere in the USB pen drive folder and select the PASTE option from the drop down menu.
Once all your files are copied, just close the USB pen drive folder.
Then click on the SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE icon in the lower right hand corner of your taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Select the USB removable pen drive option and then wait for it to say that it is now safe to remove the USB pen drive.
Then just remove your USB pen drive by pulling it straight out of the computer's USB slot.
When you plug in your USB pendrive into your computer and you get a message "This device can perform faster if connected to a high speed USB2 port". This means your computer supports USB1 which is much slower than USB2 and the latest USB3. There may be a BIOS upgrade to configure your computer to support USB2.
Three possible sources for this problem, and three separate solutions. The following procedures assume your flash drive is assigned by MSDOS to drive E: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM 1: Pen drive write-protect switch set SOLUTION: move the tiny switch on the pen drive from the icon of a padlock locked toward the icon of a padlock unlocked --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM 2: MSDOS attribute set incorrectly on any/all files on pen drive HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run... > cmd C:\> E: E:\> attrib /S /D
HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd C:\> E: E:\> attrib -r /S /D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM 3: REGISTRY set incorrectly (targeted by virus or other malware) HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run...> cmd regedit display HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Control \StorageDevicePolicies
The valid values for this are 0=Disabled (meaning READ/WRITE), and 1=Enabled (READ only) HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd regedit set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies to a value of 0 (Disabled) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A fourth way to "Fix" the write-protection problem would be to reFORMAT the flash drive, but this "solution" merely resets the ATTRIB characteristic of the top-level directory of the flash drive (while erasing all files on the flash drive), which is done better with the ATTRIB command, and completely fails to address the possible write-protect switch or Registry issues.
Hi,
Normally you don't need a special driver for usual pen drives. Are you properly removing it via the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray (in right corner, near the clock on the taskbar)? If you don't use the Safely remove Hardware command, then you pen drive can be damaged. Try it in other ports or check it for proper function by connecting it to another PC.
If this is the solution for your problem, please rate my post, otherwise give us more details.
This situation often comes when you're incorrectly disconnecting the drive (or even worse if you are disconnecting it when the data is copying).
The right way:
point your mouse cursor at the icon with green arrow (at the systray near the clock on the bottom right side of your screen). Press LEFT mouse button and press on the pop-out text: Safely remove USB mass storage device Drive(X:). If you see text on yellow balloon "The 'USB mass storage device' can now be safely removed from the system" you can safely remove it now.
Try to use your pen drive with another computer. Too many humidity or static charge can also damage you pen drive.
Sometimes there's nothing you can do with your pen drive with the situation you've described.
Hi. If you delete it in device manager and re-detect it, does it change? If you can see it in the taskbar, can you use the eject device icon to eject it, then remove and re-insert the drive? Finally, try it on someone elses computer and see what result you get.
