If you're sick of a toy that makes a huge sound even on the lowest volume setting?
Simply put some sticky-tape over the speaker hole (this'll usually be a couple of little holes or vent looking things) Either cover it completely for a really quiet version, or play with covering only half of the holes and see how it goes!
If you're on Vista/Windows 7, follow these instructions to enable Loudness Equalization. This significantly boosted the volume of my laptop speakers.
Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound
Double click on your default sound device (it will have a green check on its icon). Go to the Enhancements tab. Check Loudness Equalization, and hit apply. That should boost up any super-quiet noises.
The ps2 has a sound threshold, which it cannot surpass. Do you hear any volume at all? If you hear NO volume, verify that your audio visual cable is properly seated in both the TV and the console. If you hear some volume, and its just really quiet, try a different TV.
