Excessive oil high pressure ruptures oil filter, on cold weather, upon turning motor on. Tried different oil filters, last one toyota original to same results. Is there another relief valve on the motor other than the one that comes with the filter, Thanks
There is a bypass/ pressure relief valve in the oil pump, sounds like it is jammed shut or blocked, You don't say what the vehicle is, if the pump is internal then its a strip down I'm afraid.

this is a tough one but if the oil filters been replaced..since the pomp has a spring in it that controls oil pressure.., i have only one thought that comes to mind because something similar has happened to me ..on an oil filter there is a rubber seal once in a while when you change the oil filter the seal sticks to the motor block and when the next new filter goes on its double sealed ..when this happened to me a week went by and when i got on the fwy i seen cloud of smoke and oil was just everywhere...check and make sure that it hasent happened in your case
If you haven't changed the oil and filter in your transmission for a long time, this could be the problem. Over time, the filter plugs up just from normal wear, and the pressure drops in your transmission, because it is harder for the oil to go through the clogged filter. Dirty oil is also more likely to make valves in the transmission stick or slow to move, which, again, is worse in cold weather. You should change both the oil and filter, and when you do, dump the oil into a clean container so that you can see if there is anything other than fine material from normal wear in the pan.
Your oil pump is driven by the camshaft. When you step down on the gas, the engine (and of course the cam) turns faster, turning the pump faster, therefore making higher oil pressure. 80psi is good but a bit on the high side (depends on actual RPM though) You will always see a higher pressure on start up especially in cold weather. Most times it will drop a bit after the oil warms up. Most oil filters (good ones) have a burst capacity of about 120psi so I wouldn't worry about it. If you run a synthetic oil you may see slightly lower pressure but will not loose any wear protection. Additionally the synthetics tend to keep oil passages cleaner and will gently remove any restrictions that formed due to gunk buildup.
with it being colder weather unless you live in Equador where it's hot all year round, the oil thickens thus you have good oil pressure, nothing wrong with good oil pressure only if you have no oil pressure. a car with 5w30 in 20*f weather that only gets 35psi in the summer now gets 55 psi in the cold..... now if you have a wrong oil filter that would put it in bypass mode thus giving you 60psi or higher ( i had this happen to me in a used truck ) if the engine isn't knocking i wouldn't worry about it much, a car in cold weather performs better than a car in the hot.
just finish doing a freinds truck same problem
engine high idle oil pressure ok engine at low idle hot
o oil pressure also hard start start after sitting a few minutes hot
or in am cold
found 1- wrong oil filter--not depresing dain out valve to crank case
2- oil cooler by pass valve rubber seal ruptured (fairly expensife oil filter base kit )
(only way to get this rubber)
3- found oil gallery plug pop out of oil injection pump(cant buy)
located small frost plug kit installed and peen area
reassemble and test all work out properly
4-could also be the oil gallery in the block at front or rear
they are also block of with frost plug cap
very pore desine should be treaded plug and locktite
Depending on the weather condtions where you live will determine the type of oil you should use. If you are in cold weather most manufactures for newer cars 2003 and up recommend 5-30 weight detergent oil. if it is hot you may want to go to 10-40 detergent. If you have the engine broken in say 30,000 miles I recommend my customers use 5-30 synthetic oil, it has better lubricating and heat removal qualities that regular motor oils don't have. also oil filters are important too. Iprefer fram oil filters, the heavyguard filters. they are more expensive but filter much finer particles. and last longer. So the better the oil and the better the filter the longer your engine will last. Don't use parfin based oil as it will damage your engine.
Does it do this all the time or only when cold? (how cold is it?) If it only does this cold, it's normal as long as pressure does not go above that. If it also persists when at operating temp, change your oil filter and make sure it is the correct one. If due for an oil change, do it and add a good lubricating solvent such as Marvel oil, which will gently clean relief valve in pump and passageways. High oil pressure is actually a good thing but excessive pressure can cause the filter to explode or "blow" its seal. Then, you have more problems than anyone really needs!!! Good luck!!
5/30 is the correct oil to use (for maximum engine efficiency, gas mileage. !0/30 won't 'clog up' your motor, but it will make it more difficult to start in the cold weather. Just think of maple syrup in your fridge, try to pour it, compare to pouring @ room temp, The many oil lubricated engine parts will have difficulty turning, spinning, etc if u had cold thick syrup in the engine. Warm up the syrup, everything moves freely. The 10/30 is just a heavier (thicker if u will) oil, not what u should use in the cold weather. If u have your owners manual, check it out, it will give u the recommended oil weight to use for the temperature of your climate, but I think u will find 5/30 recommended for most situations. Always change your filter when u change the oil, change oil and filter 2x a year or 3k miles whichever comes 1st
