Kitchen Aid SS Dishwasher KUD102CRBS1 - Top Rack has 3 rusty spot

Top rack has 3 rusty spots - 1 real bad. Dishwasher is not more than 3 years old. I'm sure its $300 to replace top rack even thought it is fine other than the rusty spots at the front of the rack. Is there some type of paint or knobs that can go over the spots so I won't get rusty dishes?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Kathy

Looks like you can get the upper rack for about half that, direct from Sears-
Dishwasher Dishrack Upper Part Number 8539234 Sears PartsDirect
Still kinda pricey if you only have a few bad spots.

There is special touchup coating (never tried it myself, but looks like it gets good reviews, and the price is right)

Or prong covers if you just have rust or damage on the tips (I've used ones like these, the long ones stay on good)

SOURCE: Rusty dish rack

Clearly a design or manufacturing flaw. I have the same model and the rack is disintegrating after 6 years. I believe it is a manufacturing flaw. Our previous dishwasher rack lasted over 20 years in the same conditions. Same construction, vinyl covered steel. New upper and lower racks cost over 200.00 and there is no guarantee that this won't happen every six years. I recommend a new non-Maytag dishwasher as soon as you can. Meanwhile, limp along with the defective racks.

SOURCE: I have Kitchen Aid Dishwasher

I removed the tracks from inside the dishwasher.  Then I was able to carefully remove the endcaps (something I had not been able to do previously) carefully.  The existing broken wheels slid out and I slid two new brackets into each track.   If I attached the tracks to the rack first, I would not be able to clip them into place, so I first replaced the endcaps and then returned the tracks to their positions inside the dishwasher. Reattaching the upper rack is not difficult, but takes two people while I connected the left side, my assistant supported the rack on the right side.  I then connected the right side of the rack.  I slide the rack back and forth to macke sure that is worked smoothly.  We then loaded the dishwasher and washed our dishes as we had in the past.

SOURCE: kitchen aid dishwasher doesn't clean dishes in the top rack

Sounds like you have 1 of 2 problems. Either your pump is clogged or you need a bigger drain loop.

Glasses int he top rack of my kitchenaid dishwasher don;t get clean. they finish the run spotted and covered in what looks like baked on dirty dishwater. dishes in the lower rack look ok, but the...

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1/4 of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

We have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher model number KUDK03CTSS3. It's only about 3 years old, but the dishes on the top rack do not get clean. We thought maybe it was water not coming out the top, or food stuck...

had a simular problem, used product called dishwasher magic to clean it well and that took care of it. I got it @ walmart in the diswasher detergent area. Also be sure you are loading according to the manual. I now use lemi shine in every load for spot free clean dishes and put the dishwasher magic in it about every few months to keep it from getting build up. If you have a manual they have directions to take them apart for cleaning and I have had to that before to. Just remember how to get it back together. That's all I have but I'm not a repair person I'm a nurse.

Kitchen aid dishwasher, 3 yrs old, dishes on top rack do not get clean

Hi,

On your model, upper rack cleaning issues are most often linked to debris in the inlet to the pump. I have put some instructions together on cleaning this. If you follow the link it will explain how to check and clean this.

Rust spots on bottom rack

You may need to replace the rack. Dishwasher soap is aggressive and once an area is exposed, it will rust fast. Make sure you don't place sharp objects in direct contact with a rack. The action inside the washer can cause them to move and rub through the metal rack coating.

TOP SPIN ARM NOT SPINNING TO CLEAN TOP RACK OF MY KITCHEN AID DISHWASHER. IT IS ONLY 1 1/2 YEARS OLD AND MY TOP TACK IS SUDDENLY NOT CLEANING

Hi.

First ensure that the arm is not getting stuck, and check that the orifices are free.

When the top arm is not spinning you may need to replace pump and motor assembly. First it is good looking for blockage in pump hose.

If the appliance is less than two year old, then it may be covered by limited warranty. Call Kitchenaid at the number listed in the owners manual to verify your warranty status.

Regards.
