Recently when i use my d5100 and the flash is required, the flash pops but it doesnt fire. The camera focuses and then stalls, i have keep flash in closed position to take a photo.
Still this is strange. Most of the time when I use the auto setting, I turn the main dial not on the green camera, but on the one between SCENE and the green logo. That prevent the flash to pop up. But still if you want to use the flash it should be possible.
Be aware that some settings the flash can't be used, f.i. when the shutter speed is to high. I would suggest to put al user settings back to standard and try to use the flash again. If it stalls again, try to read the display, if it gives anything of a warning or message.

there is a sensor in there that tells the camera the flash is up you need to take it to a repair shop its not a at home thing

make sure after popping up the flash, you didn't change the mode into "no flash" mode....an easy way to check is put the flash back down, then proceed to take another photo. If the flash pops up again but did not flash, you have a faulty camera (assuming battery level is at least until the 1/3 mark).

Hi wellhuh, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Does your camera give any clue, on the screen related to your flash?
Hi Harrie. Everything on screen remains the same, there are no error messages. The camera works as normal until i actually press on the shutter and then it just refuses to take a photo while the flash has popped. So i just release the shutter, close the flash and keep it closed to take a photo.
