actually e2 is the button hole lever being down. e6 means that the thread is tangled and to prevent the motor from overheating the machine automatically stops. All you have to do is re-thread the machine and take the bobbin out, untangle it and put it back in and sew. This usually works. If it keeps happening, there could be a few things wrong.

1. if you are using thick fabric your tension should be lower. normal tension is 5.

2. your machine is out of alignment. take it in to a service center, they can fix it in 5 minutes. to find a service center near you go to http://www.brother-usa.com/service/

3. your needle is old or bent and should be replaced.

4. Your needle is too thick, standard is 80. The thicker the fabric, the thicker the needle.

I had sewing machines E6 computer bother a few yeas . Now I sewing , it turn E6 . what does E6 mean? Can you help me . How to fix it? Thank you.

Download a free manual from www.brother-usa.com and under support and put in your model number. E6, means that the thread is tangled, totally unthread it, now with the presser foot up, rethread, pull the top thread, now lower the presser foot and pull the thread, it should barely move. This will seat the thread in the tension discs. Read your manual before using, it will save you lots of grief. People love to skip this step, and wonder why the machine is not working right. This is one time you should take the time, it is worth it.

What kind of thread are you trying to use? Is it a decent fresh thread? If, it is old, throw it out and buy some fresh quality thread. Usually, cheap thread is the problem.

With the foot pedal disconnected from the machine, push the button with the - and upward arrow. to stop sewing use the same button. It is the first button closest to the needle.

I have the same problem and found that the bobbin case is scratched. These are quite expensive so I hope yours is something more simple. Keeping the bobbin area clean is also a necessity.
