Just download print the GRYPHON quick reference guide (print on laser printer without zooming) and program the scanner to factory default.
Otherwise, you will need to download the FULL reference manual. Then print out the relevant programming barcodes that will remove the last character.

SOURCE: Barcode scanner scans and beeps, but will not put the numbers in the computer

There is more than one way for that imager to send data to the computer. Are you using USB, serial, or is there a little box that goes between your existing keyboard and the PC that accepts the scanner connector?

SOURCE: Enter function

Hi Lee,

It can be done by programming the scanning the 'Send Enter Key' barcode twice, from the owners manual.

eg

Scan the barcodes -

Send All Data, Send Enter Key, Send Enter Key, Save

SOURCE: Scanner does not automatically enter barcode,

I had this problem as well, and I found the fix! Go to this site:
http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=7188201dpdf&sliceId=&dialogID=191796267&stateId=1%200%20191788707

It is the link to the PDF support for the scanner. It has barcodes you can scan to program the scanner to press enter or tab when it is done!

SOURCE: Symbol LS 4000i scanner issues

Hello, it looks like the scanner lost the settings. As power is there, so connection is ok. The several (four) beeps after reading the barcode means communication error.
Please try to find the original sheet with configuration barcodes or download it from support.symbol.com website, you would need to scan the barcode for IBM PC/AT & IBM Compatibles from Keyboard Wedge Chapter.

Scanner dies during process of scanning, then i have to unplug usb and restart

This can occur when a scanner is set up incorrectly on the computer or register you have it plugged into. How to fix this varies wildly between systems.

Need to have a barcode that when scanned will simulate an enter

There is not a barcode to simulate the enter key. You have to program the scanner to add the C/R (carriage return) to the end of the data that it sends. This is just a simple programming step. The users guide that came with the scanner will have a section in it with barcodes to scan to program the unit to perform differently. Each model scanner is a little different but the process is about the same. Enter programming mode, scan the C/R barcode, exit programming mode. Now when you scan the barcode the scanner will automatically add the "enter" for you.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Extra zero

The default setting for this scanner is EAN13 enabled. This means that all 12 character barcodes will be changed to 13 characters by adding a zero in front.
How to Disable:

Open the manual that came with the scanner (it's available to download on the Cipherlab web page if you don't have it).
Find the UPCA Parameters barcodes (currently page 29). The next heading down is Convert to EAN13. You will see the disable and enable barcodes.

1) Scan Enter Setup Barcode (on practically every page of the manual at the bottom). The scanner will beep 6 times.
2) Scan the Convert to EAN13 Disable barcode. The scanner will beep once.
3) Scan the Update barcode at the bottom of the same page.

Your scanner should now read both 12 and 13 character barcodes correctly.

Hope this helps:)

Scanner isn't scanning all the time

It doesn't sound like a power issue. Most likely it either needs cleaned, or it needs the laser recalibrated or replaced. Try cleaning the glass for starters, and then hold the scanner about two inches from a white piece of paper. You should get a solid, bright red line. If the line is distorted you need to recalibrate the laser. If it's dim, the laser unit is going out. The laser can be replaced, but I don't know if it's one of those things where the part plus labor costs more than replacing the scanner.
