It doesn't sound like a power issue. Most likely it either needs cleaned, or it needs the laser recalibrated or replaced. Try cleaning the glass for starters, and then hold the scanner about two inches from a white piece of paper. You should get a solid, bright red line. If the line is distorted you need to recalibrate the laser. If it's dim, the laser unit is going out. The laser can be replaced, but I don't know if it's one of those things where the part plus labor costs more than replacing the scanner.

I am not sure you can add a pause in the Prefix per se, but you can increase the Intercharacter delay which should achieve the result you want. Just download print the GRYPHON quick reference guide (print on laser printer without zooming) and program the scanner to factory default. Otherwise, you will need to download the FULL reference manual. Then print out the relevant programming barcodes that will remove the last character.

Reset tbe scanner and again program the scanner for your required configuration.
