Trying to hook my sanyo 32in up as a monitor for my computer running on windows xp when I hook it up it gets sound and acknowledges the cord is connected(the no signal sign goes away) but the screen just stays black.

Your set is still under a manufacturer warranty. Take your set back to Wal-Mart and they will send it out to be repaired, or give you a new one.

Now i assume you have connected the Computer using a VGA cable ( 15 D pin connector )bobhifi_41.jpgbecause if you had used an HDMI cable the sound would have come by default. The VGA cable only carries analogue Video signals. So you will have to get 3.5 mm phono to 2 RCA cable to connect the sound out of the PC to the TV's audio in socket ( next to the VGA socket labeled audio IN )

your power supply has a short in it this is comon ive seen this before try to replace cord if attatched take it to someone for repairs if not attatched its the cord most of the time loose wire..

2 problems, monitor color and update possible?

well it sounds like the color scanning chips in the monitor are going<have gone> bad. If you have access to another monitor I would hook it to your system and see. XP may run, depends on your processor speed and RAM amount, also graphics can be an issue in XP
