Does MA5800 support the Multicast?

Yes, it supports Layer 3 multicast networking, also supports IPv4 PIM SSM.

Protocol Independent Multicast-Source-Specific Multicast (PIM-SSM) enables a user host to rapidly join a multicast group if the user knows a multicast source address. PIM-SSM sets up a shortest path tree (SPT) from a multicast source to a multicast group, while PIM-SM uses rendezvous points (RPs) to set rendezvous point trees (RPTs). Therefore, PIM-SSM implements a more rapid join function than PIM-SM.

Different from the any-source multicast (ASM) model, the SSM model does not need to maintain an RP, construct an RPT, or register a multicast source.

The SSM model is based on PIM-SM and IGMPv3. The procedure for setting up a multicast forwarding tree on a PIM-SSM network is similar to the procedure for setting up an SPT on a PIM-SM network. The receiver's DR, which knows the multicast source address, sends Join messages directly to the source so that multicast data streams can be sent to the receiver's designated router (DR).

How Do I Configure Port Rate Limiting on a Modular Switch?

This is the method of configuring Switch:
Configure QoS CAR on an interface to implement rate limiting in the inbound direction. Alternatively, configure a traffic policy with an ACL-based traffic classifier to limit the rate of packets matching the ACL.
QoS CAR cannot be applied to outbound traffic, but you can limit the rate of outbound traffic using a traffic policy or traffic shaping.

you might need to enable UPNP, or disable a firewall on the internal traffic. Make sure multicast is enabled, and the devices is in the same IP scope.
that all devices have ip´s like:
IP: 192.168.0.??? (where ??? is unique to each device)
Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1

I'm using d-link dwl-3200 ap ( three) Received Frame FCS Error Counts indicate a problem? ___________________________________________ WLAN 802.11G Traffic Statistics Throughput Transmit...

Transmitted Error Count 4734440

Ack Rcv failure Count 15269951

  • As per the above there are error on Transmitting the packet and also for receiving the acknowledge packet.
  • Please check whether any disturbance in the link
  • Each PPP packet has a checksum attached to ensure that the data being received is the data being sent. If the FCS of an incoming packet is incorrect, the packet is dropped and the HDLC FCS count is increased.
  • Another reason for seeing too many FCS errors may be that the remote end has stopped talking PPP.

I want to setup a wireless network with 3 deskops and atleast 2 laptot

Linksys has a slim Web server built into their routers and a nice little Web based configuration management interface. You can configure your router to pass or filter IP multicast. Most of the Linksys routers have a filter configuration page where you simply check to filter/pass multicast traffic. As for the VoIP/Teleplhony trafic, you should select one of the routers that allows Quality of Service (QoS) - only some routers support this. The QoS router may recognize the voice traffic automatically but at most you would have to specify the applicaation/ports to give priority to. Again, all is done easily via the Web based management utiility - no CLI needed.
