Picture and Sound disappear after a few minutes

I was given this TV a few weeks ago by a family friend who had purchased several new TV's and no longer needed it. For the first week, I had no problems. Everything worked great. Now, however, the problems are starting. It works fine when I am watching something on my DVD player or Satellite, however, when I am watching my local channels (NBC, CBS, etc,) the TV will be fine for about 5 minutes. After about 5 minutes the picture and audio will flicker and then disappear completely. I can turn the TV off for a few minutes and when it is turned back on it works fine, until it happens again. None of my other TVs have this problem, even when placed in the same room. I have also noticed that on two occasions my local ABC affiliate has been coming in on the channel of the NBC affiliate, which has never happened before. Does anyone know what is wrong or what I can do? It's very weird and frustrating.

KP53S35 when tv turned on picture was

You TV has a bad CRT, a red CRT by the sounds of it. This TV is rather old, perhaps 11-13 years of age? Your TV has given you many years of service and I do applaud you for the care you have given it and the TV for it’s reliable in your home. The trouble you face with a rear projection CRT set of this age is that you can’t just change 1 CRT tube and expect it to be reliable and produce a good picture. All 3 tubes should be replaced, as they have all aged the same. The lives of these tubes are only about 7 years. A tube is not any easy or inexpensive repair on any RPJ TV. When you are faced with the cost of 3 tubes, which may not even be available in the market place… You should consider retiring this old friend and keep the manufacture in mind as you make a new purchase.

I've got a Toshiba 52HM95 that's several years old. It's been making a grinding noise for a while. A few months ago I took the back off to investigate. The problem went away. But, now it's back. I have a...

The grinding noise sounds like it could be the fan blade hitting the housing. Have your verified that it is the fan that is making the noise? Does the fan feel loose or rub the housing when turned? Well you have already purchased another fan and have gone this far so I say continue dis-assembly if it is the fan. If you were looking to get a new TV then get one but don't trash this one. If you repair it you could sell it or give it to a friend/family member. A new 52in HDTV is not that cheap.

My HyVision LCD TV Picture disappears after a few seconds

It seems that the "backlight" has gone bad. "Backlight" is the device that allows to see the picture in an LCD TV, when they are about to go bad the symptom that you describe is very usual. It depends on the tv manufacturers and model to expect how long the "backlight" is going to last in a tv.You can shop around for a replacement part and try to do it yourself or take it to an especialized technician. Good luck..

TV works fine for a while, then the picture disappears.

I would just replace the TV, the parts are not going to be made to repair this. The set is just to old.

Delay to see the picture

Your power supply is going south, I have an old sony with the same problem. The voltage level drops and does not have enough 'kick' to start. It will work better when it is warm. The module will need to be replaced.

Sony 27"TV will not turn on

The picture tube on your tv is dead, you need to replace it. It probably will be worthing just purchasing a new set, because the cost of repairing it will be close to the purchase of a new one.
