I keep getting tiles. I don't get this on my other tv. I have replaced our surge protector, it helped for a couple months, but never got rid of it completely

The surge protector has likely committed suicide... or died by homicide. In other words, it may have done its job, or been fried trying. Either the breaker/fuse inside melted by design due to a surge, or it died.

A surge protector is only designed to protect you from many small/everyday surges, or ONE BIG ONE. The cumulative wear of small surges will eventually kill them as well. They don't last forever, and some experts recommend replacing them every 3 years or so for safety/performance.

Some surge protectors have a reset switch or a replaceable fuse, but since you smelled something burning, I highly recommend tossing it in the garbage (if not still on fire, hee hee), and get a new surge protector for safety. Your house is worth the $25+. If you have had any other electrical issues in your home lately, get an electrician to do a quick safety inspection as well. Be safe!

PS: Not all surge protectors are created equal. Look for one that has "lighting protection" and costs at least $20-25 , or you likely don't have decent protection (the ones I buy are usually $30-$35, but I watch for sales and keep an extra on hand). Never overload a surge protector or wall outlet. Read the manual for the total watts,etc. supported. And don't expect to collect on the $50,000 equipment damage guarantee some surge protectors promise.

Check your power strip or surge protector connections if that don't work then you might need to replace the wall outlet.

Even though the indicator light on your surge protector is on, the surge protector outlets may not be working. Test it by plugging in a different electronic to make sure it still works.

It could also be a problem with your remote, such as dead batteries or that the remote is no longer programmed with the correct codes.

Please check if your surge protector is working properly now. There is possibility that the surge protector is blown off due to high voltage surge. Check if your surge protector has a reset switch which some of the surge protectors have. If the problem still persists then you have to call the technician to replace the safety fuse which is inside the TV. The cost will not be much. I will personally recommend that you change your TV as it has outlived its life being 10 yrs old.

you need to put it on a surge protector, if not your looking at replacing it, before the power goes out theres usually a surge associated with it, i've fixed too many tvs that people could have saved with a 8 dollar purchase of a surge protector

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a surge.....in future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps,ben

I'm sorry to hear about the bad news, I had something similar happen to me around a month ago.

Honestly there is not much you can do if it is damaged due to a power surge. Resetting it would be the normal procedure.

Surge protectors only protect equipment up to a certain amount of joules. Basically if the lightning is powerful enough it can damage electronics with that initial surge. You should replace your surge protectors every few years if it is 2-3 years old then it may not be as effective.

the 622 receivers are very sensitive to static electricity build up, if you have been through more than two receivers i would demand having a technician come to your home to check grounding of your dish system, while he is there he will also check the grounding where you plug the receivers in, i suggest not using any surge protectors/power strips and, as debmaldo did, try different outlets, if you have a very high end surge protector, it should be okay but for troubleshooting purposes try a different wall receptacle
