This is a must watch before doing an Aspire One recovery.
You'll need an XP Home system disc (or an Aspire One recovery disc) and, well, hopefully the video is more explanatory...
Post your progress or any questions under this thread so that I can follow up with you...
SOURCE: In my Acer Aspire One, need eRecovery info..
yes, it will reformat and install everything you came with new, I own one and have had to recover it twice, but never use another manufacturers os disk on anything but the intended unit as it can cause conflicts or serious ir recoverable harm to the unit.
SOURCE: WD5000- I can't save files anymore to the disk
A few things to check
1. ensure the drive is connected directly to the computer and not via a HUB
2. ensure you use the original cable that came with it (not one that looks the same)
3. remove as many other usb components as possible
4.check the power supply for the external drive if it has one
5. shut down and restart the computer
At this point you should be able to see and move files around.
If this is not the case and the drive is no longer under warranty you could try the following
remove the drive from its enclosure and mount it in a computer that has a suitable interface SATA or IDE. if you can now use the drive normally then the enclosure is at fault. If the drive cannot be used normally then the drive is at fault. If its the drive then it is either dying or dead.
Also you should ensure your antivirus is totally up to date and that you also have ANTISPYWARE software installed too and that your computer is clean from any nasty stuff.
