AT&T EP5962 (5.8GHz digital Plus 2 Line)

The phone no longer takes messages. You call and it just rings and rings and rings. It says it has 50 new messages. If I hit the "line 1" the "line 2" or the "delete" buttons, the display says "mailbox is busy!"

Messages are not recorded. When one calls in, it rings and rings and does not answer. When I try to reset the mailbox, it does not let me get in. The display reades: MAILBOX IS BUSY! The explanation in the manual says: Another handset (or base) has accessed the answering system. The manual does not explain how to resolve the problem. I am wondering if I can de-register all handsets and or bases...If you know of a fix, please let me know.

my mailbox "line 1" is flashing when I press it, the message "mailbox is busy" appears.

I tested calling my number from my second line. I then pressed the blinking mailbox and again got the same message "mailbox is busy"

After hanging up and picking up the phone, I did the Comcast beeping indicating I had a message instead of the regular line free signal.

I dialed my own number to retrieve my message the Comcast way and could hear it, it was probably recorded by Comcast not my At&t phone.

Normally, if I'm talking and a second call comes in, it is recorded in this way.

One of the four units, the main power source phone and handset, works, the others do not all of a sudden. I have tried a new battery and unplugging the power source on the remote chargers. No avail.

My 5.8 Ghz CORDLESS phone does not answer my messages anymore. All the caller gets is: "mailbox" to leave a message that I cannot hear anyway.
How do I reprogram my phone so I can get my answering machine to register messages left for me???

I had the same problem for months until I had a power outage and it cleared my phone. Try unplugging it for 10min or so.

Try unplugging your corded base unit, then replug. It should reset. Then you'll be able to go in and delete those messages.

I just had a similar problem with the "mailbox is busy" message while trying to retrieve messages. Instead of unplugging the power source as someone else suggested, I was able to solve the problem by unplugging the telephone line from the back of the phone. I was then able to retrieve messages. Then I plugged the telephone line back in and everything is working fine. This might work for your problem as well.

"mailbox is busy" error when I tired to access through "menu" or when hitting mailbox button. So couldn't get into the "mailbox menu" to set time, etc. I believe I got this error after a circuitbraker blew. Tried other suggestions with no luck. This is what worked for me:
menu>set up base>deregister all (this means all handsets)> (when prompted "are you sure? hit>yes. Wait a moment until you hear a tone which means the base no longer recognizes handsets. Then follow instructions for re-registering a handset in the manual page 43. Viola!

Goes to voice main on first try on second try rings

According to iPhone faq.org: " How can set the number of rings on my iPhone before voicemail picks up?
You can set the iPhone to wait longer or shorter than the default 20 seconds before it goes to voicemail when receiving an incoming call. This will result in a different number of rings before the voice messaging system picks up the line and plays your outgoing message. To change the amount of time the iPhone will ring follow these steps:
1. Open the phone app and dial *#61# on the Keypad. Press the Call button.
2. Locate this text on the screen: "Setting Interrogation Succeeded, Voice Call Forwarding, When Unanswered, Forwards to +" and record the 11-digit number after the + symbol.
3. Touch the Dismiss button. Now enter this code on the Keypad: *61*+ followed by the 11-digit Forwards to number recorded in step 2, followed by *11 and *ringtime#. Ringtime is the number of seconds you want your iPhone to ring before voicemail picks up. Your finished code should look something like this:
*61*+18555513466*11*30#
In the example above the ring time is set to 30 seconds. Press the Call button.
4. You should receive the message: Setting Activation Succeeded. Press Dismiss and next time you receive a call it will ring for the new amount of time before going to voicemail."
According to Apple Tool Box.com: "having this problem, please try the followings:
  • Make sure that iPhone's Ring/Silent switch is OFF meaning ringer is ON. A bell will flash briefly on the screen when you turn on the ringer.
  • Make sure that the Do Not Disturb setting is not silencing calls (Settings > Do Not Disturb).
  • Make sure that Airplane Mode is OFF (Settings > Airplane Mode).
  • Make sure that your carrier software is up to date (Settings > General > About)."

All messages have been deleted but message button keeps binking?????//

Most of the time your home phone service has a digital voice mail like your cell phone does. If the answering machine is set for an amount of rings that is too long the digital voice mail service will answer before your machine. The new cordless phone indicators do show messages on your digital voice mail as well as the answering machine. Depending on your home service, most of the time when you press talk and you hear a different non standard dial tone(mine pulses 3 times before going to solid dial tone) you have a digital message. You need to delete this message before the indicator light will stop flashing. Then set up you digital voice mail for a longer pickup time! This should get rid of this problem.

Panasonic KX-TGA101 not working

By jim_giardine on Jan 03, 2010
My parents have had their Panasonic KX-TGA101 for a little over a year and it just stopped working. It no longer rings when a call comes in. Plus when we try to answer a call or place a call all we get is a busy signal both auditory and in the display window.
SOLUTION: you might want to change a new phone line, that's maybe the culprit, most of the time is the phone line is worn out first due to too many reasons.

Answering system records message after hang up

One thing to try and take note of is when the message does pick up on the "two ring" message present part do you hear on your side two full rings before the pick up?
It may be that the primary ring starts on the home side as does happen sometimes with VOIP service. If you are only hearing 1 or 1 1/2 rings before the message picks up then you might try hanging up after the second full ring thus knowing no messages are present and it should overcome your problem.

How to access messages remotely

While you are away from your home or
office, you can use a touch-tone phone,
or a pulse (rotary) phone with a pocket
tone dialer (available through your local
RadioShack store) to enter your PIN and
do any of the following:
• set the phone to answer or not
answer calls
• listen to your messages
• record a new outgoing message
• erase messages
• monitor the room where the phone
is located
Notes:
• You cannot remotely operate the
phone using its handset or another
telephone on the same line as the
phone.
• You can also listen to the message
recorded on Line 2 by making a call
to Line 1’s number (or vice versa).
USING THE TOLL-SAVER
If RING TIME is set to TS (toll-saver),
(see “Setting the Number of Rings” on
Page 15), the phone answers after three
rings if you have new messages (ones
you have not listened to). If there are no
new messages, the phone answers after
five rings. This gives you time to hang
up before the phone answers so you
can avoid unnecessary long-distance
charges.
Note: Toll-saver works only on the line
you called. If Line 1 has no new messages,
but Line 2 has one, the telephone
answers after five rings when you
call Line 1.
USING REMOTE
COMMANDS
Follow these steps to operate the phone
from a remote location.
Note: If you wait more than 15 seconds
between keypresses, the phone sounds
a long beep and hangs up.
1. Dial your phone number and wait for
the phone to answer.
2. If the phone is not set to answer
calls, it answers after about 10 rings
and sounds a series of beeps.
3. When the outgoing message begins
(or the phone sounds a series of
beeps), press #, then enter your PIN
within 2 seconds.
If the PIN is correct, the phone announces
the day and time, then it announces
the number of new and old messages.
The phone plays all new messages,
then beeps about every two seconds to
let you know it is ready to accept remote
commands.
Notes:
• If the phone does not respond, try
entering your PIN again. If you enter
an incorrect PIN three times, the
phone beeps and hangs up.
Remote Operation 27
• When the phone is operating from a remote location, it stops all answering functions
and rC appears on the display on the base. The phone resumes answering
functions when it is no longer in remote operation, if you have not turned it off.
• The remote playback of incoming messages is limited to 4 minutes. If you have
more messages after 4 minutes have passed, you must press # 2 again to listen
to the rest of the messages.
• When using remote operation, you can only delete the current message during
playback. You cannot delete all the messages stored at one time.
The following table shows the remote commands you can use.
Note: Remote operation stops when someone picks up the handset and presses either
LINE 1 or LINE 2 (whichever is flashing), or any phone on the same phone line.
Remote Commands
Press #
then (within
2 seconds:
Function
1
Repeat current message during playback.
2 Play messages.
3 Skip current message during playback.
4 Delete current message during playback.
5 Stop playback, recording, and room monitoring.
6 Set the phone to answer or not answer calls.
7 Record or stop recording a new outgoing message.
8 Play the outgoing message.
9 Switch to the other line (Line 1 or Line 2).
0 Monitor the room where the phone is located for 15 seconds

Number of rings before recording answers

Choose how many times the line will
RINGS IS...” ring before the system answers a call.
• Set for 2 to 7 rings, or choose
Toll Saver 2/4 or Toll Saver 4/6.
• When set to Toll Saver 2/4, the system
answers after four rings when you have
no new messages and after two rings
when you do. Toll Saver 4/6 causes the
system to answer after six rings when
you have no new messages and after
four rings when you do.
• During setup, the Message Window will

Bellsouth answering machine

TS stands for "Toll Saver"
It will ring 4 times if there are no new messages waiting, it will ring 2 times if there are new messages waiting.

This has two effects:

1) If you are calling home to check your messages, you can wait 2 rings. If there are new messages to check, then it answers immediately. If you make it to 3 rings, you know there are no new messages and you can hang up before you are billed for your call. This was more useful when you would use a pay phone or hotel phone to make a long distance call home. With a pay phone you would get your "quarter" back as long as there were no messages. With cell phones,it isn't as useful.

2) If you not home (which is implied by the fact that there are new messages waiting), it answers faster, so people calling you don't have to wait as long. This could also be viewed as a security risk... it tells your callers whether you are home or not.
