You deffinately have a loose wire or connection coming off that switch, youll have to investigate to find out where it is.

Sound to me,the switch contacts are going bad inside the switch. Switches fail much too often. I would use a multimeter on the switch,to see if it failing. I hate intermitting ,electrical problems. By using a multimeter is the best way to find the problem. Works for me. Sincerely,Brad Locke

I have a Craftsman FS5500 48" lawn mower. The PTO makes a noise (squeak) for a second when I pull up on the red blade engage knob. The blades do not engage. PTO does not turn. When I push the red...

Hi,
The problem is probably in the button that you pull and push to engaged and disengage the PTO... If you wiggle the button or try to pull it slowly, you may find a spot where it will work. But the button has gone bad and will need to be replaced.
If you are comfortable with wiring, you could jumper the wires and getting it working, but it would be a very temporary and possibly dangerous fix...

When I engage the blades nothing happens. Any ideas?

I have a YTH 150 with a similar problem. The mower has an electrically powered clutch which is activated when you engage the blade button. If the drive belt has no tension on it, engaging the clutch doesn't do anything because the drive wheel will just spin but the blades won't. Look for broken tension springs on the mower deck and replace.

When you say nothing happens...is the PTO engaging? You said that you already checked the belts...if none of these are off...you maybe looking at a new PTO clutch.www.nnyparts.com

Craftsman zero turn - blades won't engage

The PTO switch contacts to operate the clutch that starts the blades is defective. I have replaced mine and the new one just failed again. Sears must know this is a defect problem but so far they are quiet about the problem

I have a 18.5 hp 42" electric start craftsman mower. when i went to engage the blades the lever was harder to move than usual and once it was engaged nothing happened. blades not turning! please help.

When you move the lever and engage the blades you are also engaging the belt that drives the blades and sits on top of the mowing deck. Chances are that belt either came off one or more rollers, or broke. The only way to check it out is to get down and look on the top of the mowing deck. Get back and let me know what you find.

Craftsman 18.5 briggs/str 42''won't cut

It sounds to me like a very loose belt or very worn out belt and also an adjustment problem.
