try this link..Pull down on the bottom panel and pull it away from the washer. Reach through the open panel and up to the door lock. Find the release ring below the locking mechanism. Pull down on the ring to unlock the door.
You need to replace the door lock/switch. It is quite an easy job but is a tight fit behind the front so a bit tricky to get the old one out and the new one in.
On that type of washer the door lock is wired in series with the water level switch and if water remains in tub the door lock will not power up and unlock..what you can try is (if havent already done so) is select the drain/spin only cycle and when the water has drained the door should unlock
Hi, I'm not sure why your door won't unlock but you can manually unlock it by removing the front panel under the door (3 screws at bottom of machine) with the panel off reach up just under the lock mechanisim and there should be a plastic tab hanging down, that is the manual release. Pull it down and your door should open. Remember, power off first! Good luck.
This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model front loading washers. If you experience a problem where the door becomes jammed and will not unlock or open, here's an easy way to gain access inside your washer WITHOUT calling the repairman.
1. Remove the lower panel under the door by loosening the three screws under the bottom edge on the front of the washer. HINT: If you prop up the front feet of the washer with some small blocks of wood, this will make access to the screws much easier. 2. With the screws removed, the lower panel should drop down then come off. If the panel sticks, a light tap on either side will knock it loose. 3. Reach your hand up inside the washer behind the front casing on the right-hand side. This is where the door latch assembly is located. 4. At the bottom of the door latch assembly is a small pull tab. This is the manual release for the door. Pull the tab straight down and the door will come open.
Sometimes these doors will not unlock for whatever reason. If there are no error codes being generated, this could have just been a momentary glitch. If you see "Fdl" or "Fdu" error codes, these are usually indications of a failed door latch assembly and will require replacement.

you can use a wet dry shop vac and attach it to the end of the drain hose to removed the water.
once the water is removed then the door will unlock.
if you remove the small access panel on the front of the washer there is a white plastic type cord that you can pull and this should also release the door. after all the water is gone remove the drain pump cover and look to see if there is anything obstructing the pump.there will some water that will stil come out this is normal.
probably your door then, look at the door itself, at the latch is it broken? should form a complete square hole with four sides. if broken some part is probably inside lock asm. if complete, look at lock and determine if its in the lock position with door open, a arm will be up preventing the latch from going in. replace as necessary. Old duets (red lights) use standard lock asm same as GE and samsung. New duets (green lights) use whirlpool/new maytag unique asm. New locks come in two interchageable models, German (made in china) and Mexican, Mexican model is more troublesome, get german. If lights flash during a cycle or other time, its giving a code, note the F code displayed
