HP 3050 - vertical black lines

I get vertical black lines on pages copied with my HP 3050. Scanner glass is clean. In past HP has given me a code (not found in menu) that allows me to "white out" the scanner using a white piece of paper. It has worked multiple times, but I've lost that code. Anyone have it? They want $150 to give it to me again and I'll buy a new competitor's printer before giving them any more money. Thanks!

Happens when it scans and copies...not when it prints. In the past
when we used the procedure from HP to tell it "this is white", it
worked well and completely made the lines go away for a couple months.
The ability is in the machine to do that....it's just one of those
hidden HP menus the general consumer can't get to. Sure wish I could
    find my notes! :)

does this happen when printing as well, or just copying?

You say that the scanner glass is clean, but it takes next to nothing to cause these lines. Couldn't hurt to chack again (if you havent cleaned it 6 times already).....anyway, I found this document that is not specifically for your machine, but the menu commands should be the same:
Recalibrate the product scanner:

  1. Press ENTER/MENU on the control panel of the product.
  2. Press the < arrow key once to display Service and press the ENTER/MENU button.
  3. Use the < and > keys to select Scan Correction and press the ENTER/MENU button.
  4. Insert a blank, bright white piece of letter (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) or A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches or 210 x 297 mm) paper into the document feeder tray.
Good Luck, and please rate the response :)

When I use the feeder either for scanning or copying, the page has a black vertical line . When I make normal copies or print outs it is fine, only the feeder makes the black line. Thank you

Under the Automatic Document Feeder is a small glass.
This glass becomes dirty, creating lines on the page.
open up the scanner cover and clean the glass

WHEN TAKING A COPY , IN LASERJET 3050, A VERTICAL BLACK LINE APPEARS IN THE CENTRE OF THE COPY.

If this doesn't appear when printing from computer and olny when copying or faxing, it means that the scanner glass has a spot on it. Please refer to the manual on how to clean the glass window, or go to this page on HP support site to view an image on how to do it:

Vertical line when copying. The line does nIs this a problem for

I would look at the scanner. It is not involved in the printer process but is in the copy process. Clean the glass with a glass cleaner and soft cloth. Remove the glass and also clean the lamp assembly. If either part has a dark mark on it it would leave a line on the copy. If this does not solve your problem and the unit is several years old I would replace the lamp. Let me know if you need more assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

Copy issue with a line from top to bottom

if printing is fine and copying causes line on page, I suspect that there is dirt on the scanner glass. Clean scanner glass.

Black line along the right side near the center when copying ONLY

first, the line are in all printing pages, or only when you make copies?,
if the line are in all printing pages, maybe your fuser has damage the fuser film sleeve,(aprox, 10-20 dlls), if only this line are when you make copies, maybe the glass in the scanner are dirty(clean and try).
i expect this solution your problem

HP 3050 vertical black lines during fax

OK, from the desciption i can assume several things here are some option.
If by receipt you are talking about the confirmation the unit prints the the problem is likely dirty glass.
You would also get the lines when you make a copy using the ADF.
Open the lid there are two areas of glass the thin strip is likely dirty and needs to be cleaned.

If by receipt you mean pages you receive from someone else, and not printed or copied on your machine, then their machine has the condition described above.

If everything has the lines then you have a toner or fuser problem:
This is the test to determine toner or fuser issue.
Print a test page
When you hear the paper feed into the machine open the top to stop the machine
Remove the toner cart.
You should be able to see the page with printing on it. (This is before the page hits the fuser)
If you can see the smudge or marks on the page the problem is most likely the cartridge but NOT the fuser.
If the page is clean the problem is most likely the fuser.
Hope this helps
