TV Screen Dims during dark Scenes

My Sharp Aquos 37D43U LCD HDTV screen gets dimmer during darker scenes on television or while using a DVD player. During regular scenes the screen is the appropriate brightness, but when transitioned to a darker scene, the screen gets dimmer. Are they're any settings that can fix this?

Most likely you have the opc feture on. go to the menu under picture setting first option should be to turn on or off the opc. turn it of and should solve the problem.

    turn the backlight up

also go into the advance menu and select fine detail change to slow instead of fast movements. Also make sure the digital noise option is set to low.

On this unit if you do a fact reset it should fix this problem steps as follows. PS you might need 2 people

1- unplug power cord from back of TV
2- on the key pad on the tv hold the input and vol dowm buttons
3- while holding the buttons plug the tv in, keep holding the buttons until the screen comes up.
4- once the screen is up there should be a white K in a blue or green box.
5- next, on the key pad on the tv press the channel and vol down buttons once.
6- a menu should pop up
7- using the sharp remote, locate the directional pad
8- press the down button once should bring you to a 2nd page
9- top should state FACT INIT press the right arrow once to turn on, next a series of back slashes come up.
10- screen goes green and says INIT Successful
11- unplug power cord from back of tv wait 10 sec then plug back in. tv should turn on by itself. should be back to as new.

When I am watching a dvd with a dark scene it seems to get even darker almost to the point where I cant see anything. The light scenes are fine. Is there a setting I can change

try adjusting your brightness a little highter up and if you have a LCD tv you can adjust the backlight through your picture/video/image settings in your On Screen Display menu to your television

Sony bravia dims randomly

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)

The TV brightness dims when the we get a dim scene

This is probably normal and called "Dynamic Contrast". Maybe this company has some other proprietary naming.

Basically, the Backlight (LCD) or Bulb (Projection) will be dimmed during dark scenes to allow the TV to make a deeper black.

Flicker

I have the same problem when going to dark scenes from a bright scene or during channel changes. Sharp sent a tech under warranty and he installed new software to no avail. He called sharp tech support and they suggested turning on opc. The TV works fine but you must adjust sharpness and contrast to achieve an acceptable picture. I paid $868.00 for the set a Sam's club and will buy an extended warranty. I will not buy another sharp. My 40" sony works perfectly.
