Try steering the the car to the right and the left while driving down the road. listen for the noise to get louder or quieter as you steer the car. which ever direction you steer and it gets louder it will be the bearing on the other side. for example if you turn right and it gets louder its the left bearing because you have just shifted the vechical weight to the left side by turning right. and also in that same situation the bearing would get quieter because you have just unloaded the left bearing and put the weight to the right side.

HI, I AM CHRISTIAN LARSON. I HAVE A GRAND CARAVAN 1998. MY STEERING SOUND LIKE A WOOD OLD SHIP CRACKING, WHEN TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT. I HAVE CHECKED A LOT. 2 SERVICES HAVE CHECKED AND NOTHING. THANK...

Christian; I'll take a few pot shots at your problem. Your front struts have bearings at the top which allow the front to turn smoothly rather than your springs crackling and going bump, bump.
With an assistant, Open the hood, and to the left and right are the strut towers, easily identifiable because they are just above the wheels. Have your friend start the van "KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT! Have your assistant turn the steering wheel full left lock and full right lock. without the vehicle in motion or in gear. Ideally, you want it on a paved surface. Chances are that is the source of the noise. Good luck.

I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 4x4, I notice a noise when turning.

You need to check your brakes ASAP. You may have metal on metal on your front pads. You may have a bearing problem if the brakes are in good shape. But check it out as soon as you can to prevent further damage.

Rear wheel

does the van shake or vibrate? does the van have tires on it ?start by switching the left rear with the right rear test drive and listen for soun if no sound then the tire has a bad steel belt replace tire if the sound is still present. jack up van and spin tire if no sound is heard replace wheel bearing and if there is still a sound look into brake drum for possible springs or clips that may have fallen into drum causing noise but i would say its more than likely the rear wheel bearing to change that u must buy a new bearing and follow instructions on replacing good
