SOURCE: How to change belt on Eureka Whirlwind

On the top cover, there are holes at the front on both sides, there is a screw on each side in one of the holes. Take the out, and the cover should come off, then you can get to the brush roll and belt.

SOURCE: eureka 4870 roller only spins in upright

if the belt has been slipping it may have pollished the moteror brush shaft and it just slips. take a small piece of sand paper or enery cloth and ruffen up the shaft to give it some grip.
if the metal shaft of the motor has been heated up due to slippage it will take some doing to ruffun it as the shaft will be hardend due to heat

SOURCE: Changing belt - Eureka Whirlwind 5740

I tried the website for manuals but no luck. I called the toll-free # 1-800-282-2886 and got a rep right away. I gave him the model and s/n (lower bottom on the back side) and he walked me thru it. For the model I have, there are 3 screws to remove - With the vacuum upright and standing facing it - there is on on the right and one on the left of the bottom cover and one on the left side near the hose intake. Remove those to get to the belt. I ordered the belt with him too - althought the belts were cheap ($2.99 for 2) the shipping was $8. If this didnt help - call the 800# - they were great.

How to replace eureka model 4388 belt

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Changing the belts in your unit is easier than you think. To do so, you will need a phillips head screwdriver. First, start by unplugging your vacuum as a safety measurement. Using the lever in the bottom of your unit, recline your upright until it lays flat. Unscrew all 4 screws from the floor base cover and remove the cover to expose the roller brush and belts of your unit.

Carefully, remove the roller brush by using your hands, make sure to hold on to the side of the roller brush that has the belt so it does not pop out and hit you. Once the roller brush is removed, gently take the belt off the metal spool, and replace with the new belt.

We have a very helpful tutorial in our webpage that can assist you in replacing the belts on your unit:

How to change belt on eureka whirlwind; what tool do I need

You will first need to remove the hood to gain access to the belt and brush roller. Turn the machine upside down, place the handle on the floor and the base on a counter. You will find several screws that hold on the hood, remove them. Turn the machine back to the upright position and remove the hood. On the right hand side,if your looking the front you will find where the belt goes. At the back you will find a silver shaft sticking out, put the new belt on there first. Then put the brush roller through the belt so it is in the carved out section of the brush roller. Then grab the brush roller by each end and stretch the belt till the brush roller fits back into the base. Turn the brush roller 3 compleat turns backwards and 3 forward to seat the belt in the proper position.
Then put back on the hood.

I want to replace the belt on an upright eureka vacuum model 4481, any ideas?

I just replaced the belt on my 4481. Very simple. Be sure unit is unplugged. Unlock handle and let it lay down. Remove two screws on plastic cover. I purchased my belt at target for 2.54. Part number anywhere is Eureka U. Remove the roller brush. Loop belt around drive motor first and then around roller brush inserting the roller back into place belt side first. Replace cover and your ready to go. 10 min fix.
