Have trouble with frost build up with Amana with bottom freezer.

Have defrosted with hairdryer before. (2 weeks ago). Do you know what it could be ?

  • Anonymous Mar 15, 2009

Bottom freezer is frosting over. I've defrosted it twice like suggested. This unit will run ok for 2-3 wks mild build up, no effect on the fridge. Then it down hill from there.

    My question are:

    Once defrosted

    1. where does the water go

    2. How can I access this area

    3. any other suggestions?

Could be thermostat or defrost heater or defrost timer.you can check the heater with meters that check continuity.the thermostatis located on top coil and sometimes they will seperate.so look for those 2 things.most likely it will be one of the 2.the defrost timer is most likely good,if you hear your machine turn off and back on then the timer is good.

My fridg and freezer is cold but not could enough the freezer wont keep food frozen. there is no ice build up, I replaced the defrost timer, and I cleaned the fan in the back what else could it be please...

Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

Frost buildup

you need to check the defrost circuit and make sure the heater is working and the unit goes into the defrost mode.
also check and make sure the temp sensor is good

Frost builds up in the back of the bottom freezer (Amana ARB224RCW refrigerator) We have defrosted it, but the frost builds back up in 2 weeks. We don't think the freezer is overloaded.

ITS NOT OVERLOADED. YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. ONE OF THREE THINGS ARE NOT WORKING. TIMER, DEFROST THERMOSTAT, OR THE HEATER. THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED BY A QUALIFIED TECH. GOOD LUCK

Freezer building up with frost

Sounds like the defrosting system has a faulty timer/board, faulty heating element or bad electrical connections to these components.

More info, let me know...

Freezer unit for model ARB8057CSL which is frost free lower freezer unit has a frost build up on rear wall where I believe the heater unit is located behind. I've had occasion to defrost with a hair dryer...

I went to the Amana web page and looked up model #. They have the parts lists w/ prices and exploded parts drawings available. This will enable me to repair our unit.

Amana neither fridge nor freezer getting cold enough

the defrost system has failed. to get it working temporarily, take the back panel off inside the freezer. melt ice off with a hairdryer.
after that, fault can be in several areas - defrost heater, thermal fuse or the main pcb
