The notebook will no longer charge or run on ac power. I bought a new battery and cord (after market), but still can't get the laptop to run. Any suggestions??
Is the cord and Battery the EXACT same power spec? If so, it may be the AC jack in the Laptop has been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged in, broken connection.
Max, I believe that is exactly what the problem is. The question is how do I repair it? Is there a way to do it without sedning it to lenovo and spending a ton of money?
That depends on your technical abilities? You can get the part , do you feel confident to install it. It's not rocket science, but it does require a bit of parience, a precision screwdriver set, MIND the tiny screws. A tip: get a white sheet of paper, pin. Draw boxes, group the screws in the boxes and label. You can find the part here, be careful to order the EXACT part number:http://www.google.com/webhp?source=searc... Remove the part from your machine and use the part number and a visual of your part. I used this: Lenovo IdeaPad Y450, is that correct? This may help:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpC8SUse2... Take your time and use ESD protection. Good Luck.

I've done a lot of laptop repair, and have run into similar issues with various laptops. What you've described sounds to me like a problem in the power circuit on the motherboard. There are a number of things that can cause this, and, generally, none of them are an easy fix - blown capacitor, bad power IC, bridged leads on a relay. If you have any experience working with integrated circuits, you can always test the power loop on the laptop with a multimeter. However, you may want to look into obtaining a warranty repair, or purchasing an extended warranty so that you can get a warranty repair; if there has been no user error(i.e. fluids spilled on the computer, dropped computer, left in excessive heat or humidity), then its a factory defect on the motherboard.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Laptop will not charge battery. Issue with internal power converter, etc.
The motherboard has charging circuits built in to regulate the charge to the main battery, in rare causes it fails leaving a choice to attempt a repair or replace the motherboard. I suspect this is what has happened to your system.
The battery might be nearing the end of it's useful life and needs to be replaced. The battery only lasts for so long then it has to be replaced.
Buy a battery on ebay base on your computer's Make and model, not the model of the battery.
