Coffee goes to counter instead of pot (occassionally)

It appears the coffee does not enter the pot; but over flows the top and spreads on the counter.

  • Anonymous Apr 28, 2009

I have the same problem. Coffee is going to the counter instead of the pot--every time. Worked great for a couple of years but not now.

Had that problem. Does the flow of coffee normally stop when you remove the carafe? If so, clean out the valve at the bottom of the basket. If this doesn't allow the liquid to flow, it goes out the overflow. Rinse it under hot water while working the valve.

My DCC 1150 Cuisinart coffee maker brews the coffee ok but when the brewed coffee comes out to the top of the pot most of it goes over the edge and onto the counter.

Posting this answer again b/c it sounds to me like your coffee is flowing over the lid of the pot, not the edge of the basket/water chamber. Coffee oils build up inside the lid. You have to clean it with a pipe cleaner or a bottle cleaner (like the ones that come with Dr. Brown's Natural Flow bottles - they look like a mascara brush but the bristles are clear). It will be clear how much build up you are getting out as long as your pipe cleaner/bottle brush is a color lighter than coffee. We have to do this about every 8-10 weeks. This is one of the weaknesses of this coffee pot - the lid, even if you rinse it regularly after you brew coffee, gets coffee oil build up inside of all the little holes that allow the coffee to flow in and pour and stay hot. I wish Cuisinart had made this lid so that you can open it to get to all the parts - but alas they didn't.

My Bunn coffee pot seems to pour out so quickly. The grounds come out the back and all over the counter and in the coffee.

if the coffee is ground too fine, it'll take longer to brew through. either grind more coarse or call bunn for a flow restrictor (800) 352-BUNN (2866)

Coffee grounds in the coffee pot. It appears water does not flow into pot quickly enough, so filter basket overfills and causes grounds to go up and over the filter, then flow into pot. Also heat plate...

From what you described, it sounds like your carafe isn't fitting properly. The lid of the carafe is supposed to open a valve on the bottom of the filter basket. If this valve is clogged or not opening completely, that will produce your symptoms. Also, the warming element will not keep carafe hot if the carafe isn't sitting properly.

Coffee pot spills when pouring

This is a back flow problem.
the pressure of the fluid being push by air.
the small lip on the pot can't handle the flow.
go with a small tilt and you should be fine.

Coffee doesnt flow but water gathers in the drip pan instead.

Hi Your problem is probably the boiler leaking. Its located just above the drip tray in the center of the machine. When it starts leaking it goes into the drip tray or on the counter top. If you can remove the top, you can see if the boiler is leaking. There will be a white line between the 2 halves of the boiler.

Coffee in Cuisinart grind and brew ends up all over counter

once and a while the filter door will come ajar and make the coffee leak all over. (allways try to jigle it open after closing, because fine grounds will make the door not close right) Also if the carafe is not in all the way you'll geta mess too!

We bought a black&decker Spacemaker coffee maker last month and it has not worked properly but maybe a week. It seems to not want to flow correctly into the pot. We set it to come on and wake up to...

If the hole in the bottom of the basket isn't plugged, it sounds like the anti-drip feature isn't functioning properly. This is the series of levers that allow you to remove the pot while the coffee is perking without spraying liquid everywhere.

There is a vertical lever mounted at the back of the hollow where the pot goes, and the top end of that lever lines up with the spring-loaded lever that closes the bottom of the coffee basket. When the basket is in place without the pot, the bottom of the basket remains closed. When the pot is inserted it presses against the back lever and the series of contacts opens the valve covering the hole in the bottom of the basket, allowing the coffee to flow into the pot. If the sequence of contacts doesn't work the basket will overflow, and you get coffee and grounds everywhere.

Ensure all these parts align and are working properly. If there's a problem that can't be resolved, or parts are broken or missing, removing the spring-loaded lever from the basket will allow the coffee to flow into the pot. You will no longer be able to remove the pot while it is perking, but you'll have your morning coffee.

Hamilton beach coffee maker Model 49464

Leave the carafe off the hot plate and place the basket in holder with the lip under hinged flange so it sits flat. Then replace the carafe and the basket should not move up when the Pause and Serve button opens. I just bought this pot too and
love it but except for the basket placement problem.

Over flow

I think you have to be careful in how much water you put in. I had the same problem the first few times I used it. I started to only fill until the water just met the 10 cup mark, not over it. I have not had the problem since.
