First clean the sensor tag and sensor head open and tape. Then perform a calibration label pressing the PAUSE and FEED buttons and turn on the printer, release the keys until it starts to move the label. Wait until you are finished and ready to print.

Solution from Noel O'Kell fixed my issue. the two sensors below (ribbon and printhead)it should be clean, dont touch them, spray them with canned air. Also these couple of sensors should be as close as possible and in the best angle to be able to sense the reflection from the chromed metal piece sitting above them when the head is closed.

Error print head open on Zebra 6m plus. Load ribbon and stock close head and it will start to calibrate then the error print head open comes up. 2 new sensors have been installed by a Peak tech. Is there...

The sensor on this printer is a double sensor. The side close to the frame is the head open and the one on the outside is the ribbon present. It is adjustable. They both reflect off the chrome surface of the head assy. above them. First clean the chrome surface above the sensor and test before adjusting. There is one screw that you can loose and tilt the sensor to match the angle of the chrome plate above. Also the gap between the sensor and the chrome surface is .060in. or 1.5mm.

Zebra Z4 Error message

ribbon in means, you choose direct thermal print method which is printing without a ribbon and yet you print with thermal transfer print method.

just check on lcd panel , change the print method to thermal transfer. and make sure the setting on your driver is thermal transfer too, or else it will keep reverting back to direct thermal

Have X3 Zebra 140Xilll printers. These printers will stop printing with a message "Error condition Paper out". But the paper is loaded. Everything seems fine. What can I do? Thanks Steve Rolland

Check and clean the sensors, also the reflective surface. Make sure there are no lables stuck to the reflective surface. Use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean.

I have a zebra z6mplus the ribbon keeps breaking

You may have your contrast set too high. If it breaks as it feeds under the printhead (while printing) your contrast may be set too high.
You also could have a ribbon spindle issue. Are both ribbon spindles turning?

ZM400 printer

Try going through the LCD menu and if it say "Direct Thermal" change it to "Thermal Transfer", Direct Thermal made means, no ribbon required, but it sounds like you do have ribbon in the printer, if so, try my recommendation. If it asks for a password, it's '1234'.
