Hi Chris Stewart - If the bake element and the top of the range works, but just not the heating element, then you possibly have a bad broiler element or connection. However, if you are experiencing other performance difficulties, then the control board may possibly be faulty and needs replacing. Consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Gas Oven

The igniter needs to be replaced. I had the exact same thing happen to my oven. The igniter would glow, but after tested, it did not have enough amperage to actually ignite the gas, so the gas kept running with no ignition. You can get a replacement at an appliance parts store. If you have a friend or relative who is a heating/air conditioning repairperson they can test your current igniter. Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a gas stove - Frigidaire model FGF326ASA.

You probably have a weak ignitor. To operate properly it should draw 3.5 amps or better. The ignitor must be bright. If it is dim it is weak.

SOURCE: oven will not light. it is a frigidaire model #

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven will not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve will not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

  1. Defective thermostat
  2. Defective selector switch
  3. Defective gas safety valve
  4. Defective gas valve coils

Bottom oven does not start

I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM THIS WEEK. MY REPAIRMAN TOLD ME THE GLOW BAR IGNITOR ARE BAD TO GO BAD. EVEN IF IT STILL GLOWS IT PROBABLY ISN'T PUTTING OUT ENOUGH GLOW TO OPEN UP THE SAFETY GAS VALVE. I THOUGHT MY PILOT LIGHT MIGHT BE OUT, BUT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ONE FOR THE OVEN/BROILER IN THE BOTTOM OF STOVE, BUT IT DID HAVE ONE FOR THE TOP BURNERS.
YOU CAN WATCH SOME YOU TUBE VIDEOS OF HOW TO FIX THE GLOW BAR IGNITOR FOR THE OVEN AND LEARN MORE--HOPE THIS HELPS..

Bake and broiler element come on when bake is selected. Why?

Understand that I am not a professional, so this answer is subject to revision by someone who is more knowledgeable.

Where I live now I'm on Natural Gas, but in the past I've had electric stove/ovens. Based on my best recall the situation you describe is NOT abnormal.

When in the Broil mode, the Bake element is NOT on, but the Broil element is on FULL-bore to provide that strong radiant heat required for the Broiling process, AND for the good browning /crusting of the product being Broiled!!!!!

On the other hand, when Baking, not broiling, IF the Broiling element were on high it would provide too much radiant heat to the top of the product being Baked, and would burn the top.

While Baking, by energizing the Broil element in a lower power setting, the Baking process is enhanced with more heat by the assistance of the Broiler element, BUT without the hazard of burning on the top!!!!!

Hope this is right and helps your understanding.

SET DIGITAL THERMOSTAT TO SAY 350 DEGREES WILL NOT TURN ON OVEN,,, ? IF I SET TO BROIL BROIL WORKS BUT OVEN WILL NOT TURN ON ?

Possibly the ignitor for the main oven burner has failed--

An observation question:

When the Broiler 'lights' and comes on, do you notice the ignitor glowing bright, before the gas valve (to the Broiler) opens, and you get the Broiler lighting---

Now-- for the main burner to come on, -- there has to be a similar bright glow from the MAIN BURNER ignitor, before its main burner gas valve can open-- No Ignitor?-- No ignition, and not Main Oven burner!

Let me know what you need from this point on --

MY BROIL ELEMENT WON'T IGNITE ON MY MGS5870ADW MATAG GAS RANGE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT PART TO ORDER. BACK ELEMENT OR IGNITER IS GLOWING RED.

It could be that the ignitor is weak and only partially heating which could be causing the gas control valve not to open and allowing the gas to flow into the broiler burner tube.

I would also suggest you see if you can smell gas to confirm that the gas supply valve is actually opening up. With the oven door closed, turn on the broiler and after 20-30 seconds of having the ignitor glowing red, turn off the broiler control and open the door and see if you can smell gas, if not it could be either a weak ignitor or a faulty gas control valve.

I would suggest that before you start ordering parts, you swap out the oven ignitor with the broiler ignitor to verify that the broiler ignitor is the problem. It could also be the broiler tube has a blockage of some sort possibly from cooking debris, that is preventing gas from flowing into the tube.

Here's a diagram for your unit along with the parts list.

The lower oven ignighter does not glow

I had the same problem and swapped the oven igniter with the broiler igniter and the oven now works. This proved the oven igniter itself was the fault, now I have to replace the broiler igniter with a new one(which is much easier to get to).

FYI: An igniter may glow red and still not allow the oven to work. The igniter has to draw a certain amount of electrical current for the main gas valve to open.

Oven not working

hey, turn the oven on and see if you see an orange glow at the bottom. this would be your glow coil. exactly like the broil. if you do, take an amp probe and check the amp draw to it. it should be over 2.9 amps. if no glow or low amps replace and start baking. enjoy

My Kenmore oven wont ignite. The broiler works

The problem is your bake ignitor. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

The bake and broil oven features each have their own separate igniters and operate independently of one another. That explains why the broiler still works. They are, however, fed from the same gas source. So...the logical conclusion would be to replace your bake igniter (the no glowing is usually a dead give-away).

Replacements can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com. Prices can vary amongst sites, so shop around for the best price. The sites I provided to you, I found, tend to offer the best service and prices.

If you have questions along the way, or require addtional service, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Oven/Broiler Igniters for KitchenAid range KGST307

Oven bake ignites usually have lifetime 5-7 years. If igniter glows but gas not came in - replace igniter. Same with broil igniter.

Gas stove

The JGRP17 (not a full model number) does not have a pilot light. It uses glow bar ignitors. Watch the burner at the top of your oven when you turn on broil. After a short time the glow bar ignitor begins to glow, and a short time after that the broiler burner should ignite. The same thing should happen with the oven burner under the floor of the oven when you attempt to bake. If the igniter does not glow, or glows and burner does not light, replace ignitor. (looks like part # WB2X9154)
