Loss of suction

Suction through the wand is very good but in the upright position the suction is very poor. I have checked for blockages and there are none. It seems to me that when the machine is moved into the upright postion there is not a good seal to the base. when I hold my hand under the machine you can barely feel any suction on the side where the hose connects and none on the other side. Has anyone else had a similar problem.

Why when I Pull out handle to use edging attachment, suction stops?

Make sure that the vacuum cleaner is in the fully upright position as there is a slide 'gate' thet directs suction to either the vacuum head or to the handle section depending as to which section you wish to use. In the upright position, you shoud be able to hear the vacuum at the handle where the attachments connect. If you still have vacuum at floor level, check the action of this gate. The actuating mechanism may be broken. Cheers Bob

Dyson hose does not produce alot of suction when extended.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. with the machine locked in the upright positino, remove the hose from the machine, switch on and test the suction. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If the suction is strong, you will need to check the wand for a blockage. If the suction is still poor, check the hose for a blockage.

You may find it useful to wash the filter as this can sometimes cause a drop in performance if its dirty and it wuold be more noticable from the hose.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards

I just bought a used Dyson DC07. Works good but

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To test this, please remove the wand from the machine and switch on, testing the suction from the top of the wand handle. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its strong from the hose itself, the wand is blocked and you will need to clear this.

If there is poor suction from the hose, you can remove this by unclipping it from the base of the machine and can then remove any blockages. It is also worth checking the hose for any splits or holes.

My dyson 17 wand does not work. When it is on and you stand it upright it turns off

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

If the suction is good from the base but not from the wand, this would indicate that there is a blockage in the wand handle or hose. To test this, stand the machine upright and release the wand handle. Switch the machine on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If its poor, remove the wand handle from the hose and try the suction at the top of the hose. If its good here, then there is a blockage in the wand handle.

If the sction from the top of the hose is poor, you can remove the hose to check this for any splits or blockages. If it needs to be replaced, you can buy a replacement online at www.dyson.com.

Dyson DC07 bagless - upright mode v poor suction, wand mode ok

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the bleed valve is activating which only happens when there is a blockage.

We would recommend following the full blockage through as outlined in your user guide or in the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Hose Collapses When I Try to Use Wand

Hi Both.

Ok you have A blockage, Remove flexi hose completly from rear of machine & completly remove wand & handle from the hose.

Now check flexi hose for obstruction if none present move on to the wand & hanndle look down through tha wand for any obstruction look very carefully where the plastic handle meets alloy tube there is A slight bend here often A coin gets stuck here & flips accross to block oppening when you try to use wand.

If you cant see anything coin etc put hose back on machine & switch on there should be good suction from the flexi hose,
Now with machine still switched on push alloy pipe back on if the hose suddenly pulls back & there is poor or no suction you definately have A coin stuck at the bend.

You will need A broom handle or other long solid pole to hit it out.

Suction

If the wand alone causes a suction loss, there are only a couple of issues:
  • leakage
  • blockage
If it is leakage, remedy the defect or install the wand correctly.  If it is a blockage, you'll have to find and remove it.

Suction not working in upright

Hi.

You will have A blockage in either the wand or hose, completely remove them from machine the hose unclips at the bottom back of machine,
Now switch machine on with this removed if machine sounds ok then remove the blockage from hose or wand.

If machine still poor suction & noisey with hose & wand removed check the (U) shaped inspection port for blockages.

Let me know how you get on.
