Amana heat pump emergency heat comes on but blower will not start. The call for heat comes in and the heating element(s) glow red for a few seconds and then there is a "click" and the heating strips de-energize. The blower fan motor doesn't come on, however the squirrel cage fan spins freely. The heat pump stopped working several years ago, but I just used the emergency heat option for heating solution. The squirrel cage fan motor was replaced about 3-4 years ago.

Check the blower motor capicator. It should be mounted close to the motor with 2 wires to it (brown,brown/white).
Turn the blower on the thermostat and spin the squirrel cage by hand and see if it runs after by itself. If it does then definitely the capicator is bad .If it still doesn't run then check to see if there is voltage going to motor.
If thermostat is calling for fan and there is voltage present at the motor terminal then the motor is bad

SOURCE: Amana Heat Pump Emergency Heat will not come on

On the heating element [behind the coil, (the springy thing)], at the top end of the element, there is a little thermistor I think it is called. You will have to remove the fan shroud. With the power off, check for continuity if you have a multimeter. If that is the problem (no continuity), you can pick one up at al local heating supply. Just have it soldered back in and reconnect. If the thermistor 's continuity is okay, remove the main board under the control knobs. I have seen these boards burn in the back where the relays are soldered on. If you're really good with a solder you can try to re-solder it. If not, it's about as cheap to buy a new unit as it is to buy the board. Good luck.

Amana Heat Pump Emergency Heat will not come on

the problem sounds like 1 or 2 things either you have a bad sequencer for the heat strip or the emergency heat portion was not wired up.

Heat pump works in emergency heat, but not in auxiliary heat

I set the thermostat for 70 degrees. It comes on always in auxillary heat and does not shut off when it reaches 70 degrees. It is a heat pump, I am assuming, it might be the thermostat? But when the air conditioner is on, it turns off when it reaches it's temperature.

Heat strips not heating

Check your sequencers on your elements. If you don't have the equipment, then all you can do is check your filters and ensure they are clean. Also see if you can set the heat pump at a lower temp, you can do this at the defrost board, the therm or sensor. Get (the heat pump) to heat the house more than the electric before you have a tech come and diagnose your problem.
