I have an HP Laptop with Windows 7 and I have correctly set up my Logitech LS21 speakers, but the volume control does not enhance the sound coming from my laptop. The speakers work fine, but the sound is low and it doesn't seem as if the volume control works. My soundcard is working fine as well. I am unsure on how to fix this.

There are 2 volume controls on the audio output in windows 7. one is the system volume the other is the device volume. make sure that they are both at full and then control the sound volume on your speakers.

SOURCE: How do I connect my Logitech X-540 speaker to my laptop an

I just opened my Realtek HD Audio settings and clicked on 5.1 sound.. then assigned the different ports.
Make sure you have the latest audio driver update for your soundcard, and go through the software options, it'll be there somewhere..
If you think you might have a RealTek soundcard, you can find newest Realtek HD audio drivers here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173930788/Vista_R211.zip

Has XP support too. Install and reboot, then the 'red' realtek volume icon should appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
You'll find the settings manager in there.

Turns out my soundcard wasn't fully inserted into the motherboard, so I just took it out then put it back in and everything works fine.

Hello
Try going to control panel, audio, settings.Make sure your speakers are set to 5.1 surround sound.

Next if there is software for these speakers or your audio device be sure it is also set for surround sound.

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling

No sound coming from speakers but coming from laptop

Go to your control panel from the start menu.

Select Sounds Icon. Here you will find a list of "installed" and built-in speakers. You need to select your newly installed speakers, and calibrate them (or test) them.

It is all right there in the Sounds Control Panel.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

(also, try restarting the computer and make sure all volume resources are not muted, and are turned up enough)

Loudness Equalization : on

Equalizer: Choose one (Jazz seems to be loudest setting but sounds of hallway effect so I use powerful for clarity.)

This has more than doubled the level of volume on my acer 5570.
