I have a Phillips Pronto TSU3000. No manual on how to program remote or other devices like - TV, suround sound, cable, etc. HELP. thx

Note: most remotes allow you to find the code by manually turning the TV (or other device) on first, then press the appropriate button (cable, DVD, surround, etc) then setting the the remote in the "program" mode, then keep pushing the "off/power" button until the TV (or other device) turns off, at that point the code is set.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with brand new batteries. If found faulty, clean the remote control's internal circuit board. Just click this link to know more about cleaning procedure. Pull up older posts there.

How to enter codes manually:

1. 899 Turn on the device (VCR, DVD, TV, Satellite receiver etc.) you wish to program.
2. Press and hold the "CODE SEARCH" or "SETUP" button on the remote until the indicator light turns on, then release.
3. Press and release the button for the device you are programming (VCR, DVD, TV etc.). For AUX, press AUX button, then the device button you are assigning to AUX. The indicator light will blink then remain lit.
4. Enter the three-digit or four-digit code (depending on your GE remote model) for your device using the number buttons. After your code is entered the indicator light will turn off.
5. Aim the remote at the device you want to control and press the POWER button. Your device should turn off. If your equipment does not respond to the first code listed in the documentation, repeat steps with the next code. If the device responds correctly to other functions like Volume or Program up/down, no further programming is required.

your TV and, your cable box both "see" a series of invisible (infared) flashes of light like morse code these flases tell them what to do.one answer is to: buy a universal remote so that you can program a button for each device then when you want to control the cable box just push the "cable" button and, then volume etc. to turn your tv off push "tv" then "off" the service man was right but he should have explained this to you
also your cable remote may be programable to work with your tv like a universal remote check with your cable co.

Programming with Code Search

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press the Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction to forward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.
