SOURCE: freezer cold but not fridge

too much ice bulid up will stop enough cold air being blown into the fridge.Try turning it off letting all ice melt then turn it back on again and set thermostat at a lower temp. There may be ice you can't see.

SOURCE: amana side-by-side fridge freezer only cold at the bottom

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. God bless ,tom

SOURCE: 2000 Amana BX21Vl fridge: ice maker and freezer not working.

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of. after the freezer freezes again, your ice maker will work again.

SOURCE: Fisher and Paykel N500B fridge freezer. Freezer not freezing

I had a similar problem on the same model. Ice creams were soft & frozen food not ice cold. I opened the freezer. Removed the food & noticed the evaporator fan at the back was not turning. This is the likely cause of poor cooling in the freezer. I got it running by turning the fan with a screwdriver but replaced the fan soon after!!!

Freezer stays cold. Why is fridge part warm?

if freezer gets iced up the fan designed to pass cold air from the freezer to the fridge stops working. The freezer is meant to go into a defrost mode when its trtansducer senses too much ice. If the transducer goes fault the ice builds up. Some fridges use a timer to work this out so it could be a timer fault. Talk to a service man about how much ice the freezer should have for them to sucessfully diagnose the fault. Too much ice may prevent the service man from working out if temperature sensor is working and no ice can prevent him from testing sensor. To get rid of ice you have to trun off the power to the fridge and let it melt.
BEWARE remove food to another freezer and fridge to prevent food going off or getting food poisioning

I have a magic chef refrigerator that is not cooling. The freezer is working but nothing is staying cold in the frig. Could this be the thermostat?? Don't want to replace frig for a number of reasons. ...

next time send the model number, where is the freezer is it on top or bottom or side by side, anyway all the fridge does is get cold in the freezer and the evaporator fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns to the freezer just goes around until it gets cold enough and then the t-stat tells it to shut down so if the freezer is cold you either have a bad fan motor, open the freezer you should hear the fan blowng around in there if not the evap fan motor is bad, also touch the back inside wall of the freezer if there's any frost or ice on the back inside wall you have a defrost problem, bad timer or board, bad defrost thermostat or a bad defrost heater, the ice doesn't melt off of evap coil because one of the parts have failed, the air ducts get blocked with ice and the cold air can't blow into the fridge section,or if you see ice on the ceiling, side and back walls the door was left open and the air ducts blocked with ice,or one more thing if the freezer is on top and you have water dripping into the fridge section the drain in the freezer is blocked and the defrost water can't go down the drain hose, the water is freezing the air ducts up,the drain has to be cleared and all the ice has to be melted out,and yes there is one more thing it could be, some fridges have a damper in them, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the cold air from the freezer blow into the fridge section so this is why you have to send the model number.but your problem is the cold air in the freezer isn't getting blown into the fridge section because the fan isn't working or the air ducts are blocked with ice.

Ice maker stopped working, plus fridge not cold, but freezer o.k.

I would check that fan motor in the freezer section is running. it distributes cold air from freezer into refrig section also if this motor is running the top portion of freezer will not get cold enough to allow ice production. the motor is easy to repl and is mod# specific you should be able to buy one online.

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
