The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:
1.) Your lenovo n500 power charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.
2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.
3.) Your battery is faulty.
I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

I had the same problem. There is a small touchpad on the laptop, just above the Pause button, which turns the main mouse pad on and off. It is situated on the far right hand side (there are also touch buttons for the volume controls there), between the N500 logo and where the power supply jack fits in.
When you plug the USB charger to the unit, does the Orange LED light up?
If the light is ON, then the problem could be the charging circuit or the battery is defective.
If the light is OFF, then the USB port has a cold solder (Solder crack)
