Toshiba satellite a105 clicking noise near power supply

My laptop turned off while in use and will not turn on again. There is a very faint clicking sound near the power supply. The hard drive still works, I tired a different power adapter and works fine, took it apart and blew out the dust in the fan. It still will not booth up, no lights or anything but this clicking sound. I took the whole thing apart and still can hear the clicking sound when its plugged in.

When you say that the hard drive works I have to ask how you know. There are not many parts in a laptop that would make a clicking noise. One of them is the hard drive. Is there any display activity at all? Lights on the unit that come on?

The most common problem on these units is the ac connector solder joints break away from the motherboard. If you're sure the ac adapter is working, and the correct one, and it's not charging the battery (assuming the battery is good), it's most likely the problem. They don't have to appear loose to be loose.
Otherwise, it's motherboard time, or a loose screw, etc has caused a dead short on the board.
Good luck, if you have additional info, let me know.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite P200 doesn't boot

Try pressing FN/F5 keys simultaneously, or the key that toggles internal/external Display. Look for the double screen Icons on the keys.

Tap the Pause Key.

Restart and press and hold F8 key when Toshiba logo appears. When the boot Menu appears, select Last Known Good Configuration.

If all else fails ther should be a reset button on the side of the LT. Consult owners Manual for location

SOURCE: My laptop(Toshiba Satellite A105 - S2051) wont turn on

hi, this is tricky, as the machine does seem to freeze even before booting. the fan may have become stuck, use some compressed air with the fan inlet (bicycle pump may do) to clean out some dust.

wait some time and switch on again.
observe if the green lamps for harddrive and cd-drive light up.
if no, the computer does not boot up, it may be then that :

the fan is broke and laptop prevents overheat damage by not booting up(buy a new fan and replace it)

or the machine itself is broke
in either way, if the solution i provided did not help, i would recommend to see a technician!

good luck then

check the pins on the adaptor connector that goes into the laptop socket....
they all must align correctly....
normaly it will have three pins, even if one is bent or mis-aligned it will not work....use a small screwdriver to slighly adjust the pins to the aprox correct postion...use a mignifying glass to have a look into the pins....

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4048 problem with AC Adapter When I turn the laptop on with the AC adapter, after checking the BIOS freezes and does not boot Windows. If I turn the laptop in only with battery boot...

There's not much you can do. The problem is definately with your motherboard. I'd recommend a bios update, but normally you can ONLY run a bios update if the battery and the ac are both plugged in.

This problem is pretty common among Toshiba's A105 and P105 models.

Besides replacing the motherboard there's not much you can do.

Sorry.

Toshiba satellite p105-s6217 will not power up or charge.

Larry,

  1. Unplug the laptop and remove the battery.
  2. Press the power button down and hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
  3. Press the power button 5 more times quickly.
  4. Plug the power back into the laptop without the battery and press the power button.
If the laptop powers on just put the battery back in.

Try taking out the battery pack and using power supply only. If it boots, turn off laptop and try with battery again. If works, great, if not your battery my be faulty and you'll need a new one.
