Did you upgrade from Xp to Vista first ?

First, you will want to BACKUP ALL of your programs.

Since you did not upgrade to VISTA, you will LOOSE all of your programs when you upgrade to Windows 7, so be sure to backup all of your programs and files.

If you wish, you can use an external hard drive and a program called WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER to make this task easier.

See the link below for this FREE program.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2b6f1631-973a-45c7-a4ec-4928fa173266&DisplayLang=en

Now, for the fun part! Insert the Windows 7 disc into the computer and start or restart the computer.

Follow the onscreen instructions to completely install Windows 7.

You will now need to reinstall each of your programs.

If you used Windows Easy Transfer, you can use the list of programs that it prints out to be certain that you reinstall all of your programs.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: we purchased 3 units with windows 95. can we

Hello,

Basically the answer is no. The Javelin LC's come with 32MB of memory...the required amount of memory for XP and 2000 Pro are double that. 64 MB of memory total needed.

So without upgrading this PC which might not even be possible then you will have to use Windows 95.

Post back if you have any question's or comments. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

SOURCE: Desktop pc running very slowly, esp internet

First things first: You say that you only have 1 megabyte of ram. I think that you meant to say gigabyte. But if you do only have one mb, then you definitely need to get more ram. Secondly, press control+alt+delete and click the processes tab. Please say the number of processes running and the CPU Usage (they're counted and documented at the bottom left of the task manager window) in your reply. What anti-spyware checks did you run and have you checked your computer with an online scanner like kaspersky? Do you have any anti-virus (McAfee, Norton, AVG) software running? Close any unnecessary processes in the bottom right of your desktop screen on the toolbar (these icons are displayed next to your clock).

Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 - it can be done!

Windows XP has been around for over 12 years. With that much time in use, there are bound to be situations where exporting data, finding install disks, installing the new OS, reinstalling the program and then restoring the data is not a viable option or is doomed to fail. What can you do if you are faced with this situation? Simply, upgrade the system to Windows 7!
Despite Microsoft's claim that there is no upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7, there is a way to make this happen. As a consultant, I am faced with this issue several times a month and fully expect this to rise as more companies transition to Windows 7. The reasons to upgrade the existing system range from legacy databases that cannot easily be exported and imported, software that is permanently associated with the specific PC hardware and software that require a hardware dongle that does not work with newer PC's. Regardless of the reason, there is a way to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7.
Let me say at this point that the process to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 is involved and there are some things you will need to prepare for to make this process successful. If you have Windows XP 64 bit, you can upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit. If you have Windows XP 32 bit (as most installs are), you will have to use Windows 7 32 bit.
Tools you will need:
1. Download Windows Upgrade Advisor
2. External hard drive
3. Windows Vista Business Edition Service Pack 1 (no license needed)
4. Windows 7 Professional with license
The Prep:
As with any major change, you need to create a backup of the existing system. Use your favorite method of backing up the OS, data and system settings (I prefer to use Ghost to get an entire image of the hard drive in a short period of time).
Create the backup of Windows XP:
Before continuing, disconnect all hardware from the PC and uninstall all printers, scanners and any other hardware devices that will need a new Windows 7 driver. This step will save you time troubleshooting a failed device once Windows 7 is installed.
Also, verify the Administrator account log in and password or setup a new local Administrator level user login and password.
Run Windows Upgrade Advisor. This will indicate if there are any software or hardware that is currently in use that absolutely will NOT work with Windows 7. Evaluate all non-compatible software and hardware issue with the user and see if this is a "show stopper".
You can still proceed with the upgrade and see if you can make the software or hardware to work by changing the compatibility settings in Windows 7.
The Process:
With Windows XP running, put the Windows Vista Business disk in and start the upgrade process. When prompted, choose UPGRADE. (This process can take some time so be patient.) Let this finish and the system will reboot. Verify Windows Vista is properly installed by logging in using the local Administrator account.
Reboot Windows Vista at least 2 times, logging in each time, to ensure the new OS is working correctly.
With Windows Vista running, insert the Windows 7 disk and start the upgrade process. Choose the UPGRADE option again and let this complete (again, this will take some time so be patient). Once Windows 7 is installed, the system will reboot. Use the local Administrator account to login and test the OS to ensure it installed properly.
Test everything:
Test everything - log into each program and verify access and functionality. Do not skimp on this step - get the user to log in and watch them run their programs.
Once initial testing is complete, re-install the printers, scanners and other hardware that will need updated drivers to work correctly.
I have followed these steps numerous times and it has worked perfectly each time. Removing the printers and hardware before upgrading will save you time and was a lesson I learned after my first upgrade.

Do I need Windows XP Mode?
Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs many older Windows XP productivity programs and that are not natively compatible with Windows 7, thus helping realize cost savings and reduce possible operational downtime by extending the life of existing software. Visit the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to find software that works with Windows 7.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

It's the best of both worlds: The new Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.

Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.

Problems downloading from camera using windows 7 - error message say windows XP required - is it possibel to upgrade software to be compatible with windows 7

If your OS is Win7 64 bit, then incompatibility must be occur because Windows XP use 32bit Operating System and driver software usually only special for each OS (x32 or x64). About upgrading the software, how will you upgrade while you can't even install the basic software in your PC ? The choice you have is find another driver that compatible with your OS, you can search via Google, and I hope you are lucky enough to get it available or even free to download.
If you still want to upgrade, then the Windows7 is the one to be upgraded so you can use XP Mode system. You must have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate to run Windows XP Mode. You can visit microsoft.com for details.

Hope this help and be kind to rate please.

Trying to upgrade from windows XP pro to windows 7 pro error missing or corupt file ox80070241

The source you are installing from, either DVD or ISO file, is corrupt. Download a fresh copy of ISO file or burn a new DVD.

It is always better to install from ISO file directly using MagicDisc
or any such software.
If it still does not work, then i suggest that you backup all data and install windows 7 formatting the hard drive.
