Digital Audio Input

I'm confused on how to use this. I don't understand the manual when it says that you have to connect the analog cables as well. I'm trying to hook up my G5 Mac/PC/PS3 with a digital audio switcher. So I hooked them all up and connected one end to the back of the Onkyo, but I don't know how to select that input on the Onkyo. Why would it have an digital optical input if you can't select it?

On many ht receivers you must enter setup mode and tell it which digital input you are using for each digital source. i.e. you can choose optical for the DVD input and coaxial for CD, and vice versa.

Good Luck,

Proton D940 stereo receiver. What kind of CD player and cables do I need to hook it up to the car?

The Proton D940 stereo receiver features both analog and digital inputs, so you have a few options when it comes to connecting a CD player to the receiver.

For a digital connection, you will need a CD player with a digital output, such as a coaxial or optical output, and a digital cable to connect the two. Look for a CD player with a digital output labeled "coaxial" or "optical" and purchase a cable that matches the output on the CD player and the input on the receiver.

For an analog connection, you will need a CD player with analog outputs, such as RCA outputs, and an RCA cable to connect the two. Look for a CD player with an analog output labeled "RCA" and purchase an RCA cable with the appropriate connectors to match the CD player and the receiver.

Once you have the CD player and cables, connect the CD player to the Proton D940 stereo receiver using the appropriate input on the back of the receiver. If you are using a digital connection, select the appropriate digital input on the receiver using the input selector button on the front of the receiver. If you are using an analog connection, select the appropriate analog input using the same input selector button.

How to connect Panasonic TC-P50C2 to Bose Wave?

Connecting the audio between the cable box and the TV is easy, if you are using one of the composite or component video inputs. Just plug in the associated R/L audio jacks in a line with the video input. If you are using the HDMI input, that carries sound on the HDMI cable. You don't need to connect the audio out of the cable box to the TC-P50C2. See the connections page of the TV manual here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/246619/Panasonic-Viera-Tc-P50c2.html?page=12#manual . Then set the TV to this input.

However, the Panasonic TC-P50C2 does not have an analog audio output. You could try connecting the cable box RCA audio out to the Bose Wave system. You will need a RCA M/M to 3.5 mm adapter cable. (Alternatively a RCA M/M to 3.5 mm F converter and an AUX (3.5mm M/M cable or a 3.5mm M to RCA F/F adapter with a standard RCA audio cable will work between the cable box and the Bose ) This may not have the audio sync correctly with the video.

The alternative is to use a digital to analog audio converter and one of the above RCA to 3.5 mm solutions. Get an converter that has an optical digital audio input and an optical audio cable (Toslink). (The cable isn't always sold with the converter.) (https://www.manualslib.com/manual/246619/Panasonic-Viera-Tc-P50c2.html?page=50#manual ) See some converters here: https://www.amazon.com/DA-Converters/b?ie=UTF8&node=3224445011 .

I hope this helps.

To connect a blue-ray player SONY BDP-S1700 (Digital Coaxial OUT) to ONKYO TX8511 receiver (2RCA Audio), which cable should I use? Y-Cable 1 RCA(Digital Out) to 2RCA (Audio)?

The digital RCA audio cable is not the same as the analog RCA audio cable. You need a digital audio (input) to analog audio (output) converter. Amazon has a number of models: https://www.amazon.com/DA-Converters/b?ie=UTF8&node=3224445011 . Many models do not come with audio cables. Thus you'll need to supply the digital coaxial audio cable (see https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Digital-Audio-Compatible-Coaxial/dp/B01D5H8TS4/ref=pd_bxgy_2/134-6585034-3648633?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01D5H8TS4&pd_rd_r=e311c756-6e80-4fd0-8026-16a144c6b41d&pd_rd_w=r0LwZ&pd_rd_wg=4jYy9&pf_rd_p=f325d01c-4658-4593-be83-3e12ca663f0e&pf_rd_r=YVE00Y31KS8TJ3YENVFN&psc=1&refRID=YVE00Y31KS8TJ3YENVFN for one version) and the RCA analog audio cable.

I hope this helps. If your TV has analog audio outputs (2 RCA or headphone jack), you may be able to avoid the converter. Connect the HDMI cable from the BDP-S1700 to the TV, then connect your TV audio out to the Onkyo TX8511. Use either an RCA analog audio cable or a Y-cable (3.5 mm to 2 analog RCA), Set the TV to external speakers if you need to. (Some headphone jacks automatically disable the TV speakers when in use.) You may need to adjust the video to audio sync with this method. Check your TV and Onkyo manuals.

Kenwood KR-V8070 accept digital signals, trying to hook up to cable box?

The Kenwood KR-V8070 has no digital audio inputs; it only has analog inputs. You can see the manual's diagram of the rear input/outputs starting on page 4 at ManualsLib: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/287040/Kenwood-Kr-V8070.html?page=4#manual . If you need to connect a device that doesn't have an analog audio output, you will need an analog to digital audio converter. This is one version: https://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-Analog-Digital-Converter-Adapter/dp/B005F20756 . You will need to supply all of the audio cables separately.

The later KRF-V8070D does have coaxial and optical digital audio inputs. I hope this helps.

How do i connect my LG soundbar (model number:NB5530A) to my bush smart tv (model:LCD40883F1080P)

The LG NB5530A only has a digital optical audio input. The LCD40883F1080P has a digital (S/PDIF) optical audio output above the RCA audio output jacks on the back connection panel.

Your best audio option is to use this connection. When new, the NB5530A came with a digital audio cable. Remove the protective plastic covers from the cable ends. Plug in the cable using the correct orientation on both sides. If the original optical audio cable is missing or damaged, purchase a replacement and use it. (The audio and power ports on the NB5530A can be covered by a plastic cover. Remove it if necessary and replace it.

If you want to use the analog audio output on the TV, you will need a optical digital to analog audio converter. You still have to provide the digital audio cable between the TV and the converter as well as the RCA cables. See https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA for one example.

See page 8 of the manual for the LCD40883F1080P for the picture of the TV's back panel connections ; it's available at Manuals Lib: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/876290/Bush-Lcd40883f1080p.html?page=8#manual . See pages 6 and 10 of the NB5530A manual for the included cables and location of the connections. The manual is available on the product support page: http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-NB5530A .The direct link to the manual for the NB5530A is currently http://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=KROWM000575517.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Does the LCDVD326A have the ability to attach headphones? If so, where are the connections?

First of all, here's the manual:
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/CUR_LCDVD326A_EN.PDF

Refer to page 11. Apparently this set only has audio input connections (as analog audio) It does have an audio output but it is digital audio. you can't just plug in speakers or headphones, you need an adapter to convert digital to analog.
If you're a techie and want to know about SPDIF, look here:

You will need the converter:

Hi, I have a brand new blu ray player, have set it to bitstream, and am attempting to use an optical audio cable, which does not work. The coax analog works fine but cannot get sound. I see in manual...

Instructions from manual

This receiver is equipped with two DIGITAL IN terminals-one digital coaxial terminal and one digital optical terminal.
You can connect any component to one of the digital terminals using a digital coaxial cable (not supplied) or digital optical cable (not supplied).

IMPORTANT:
• When connecting a video component using the digital terminal, you also need to connect it to the video jack on the rear. Without connecting it to the video jack, you cannot view the playback picture.
• After connecting the components using the DIGITAL IN terminals, correctly set the following if necessary:
- Set the digital input (DIGITAL IN) terminal setting correctly. For details, see "Selecting the Digital Input Terminals-DIGITAL IN" on page 16.
- Select the digital input mode correctly. For details, see "Selecting the Analog or Digital Input Mode" on page 17

The rest can be found on the link below. NOTE the page numbers referrer to the manual pages NOT the pages numbers on the site.

I would like to connect the audio from my Comcast DVR via digital optical thru the TV/SAT IN optical on the receiver at the same time I have a composite connection via the TV RCA composite jacks. ( This...

I'm a little confused by your use of 'composite' with audio, as in "Does anyone know what would happen if I ran both composite audio and optical audio both to their respective TV/SAT IN input jacks on the STRDE935 ?". What is composite audio?

The manual claims on page 48 that you can't record digital audio out to the analog REC OUT jacks.

http://www.retrevo.com/s/Sony-STR-DE935-Receivers-review-manual/id/387dj981/t/1-2/

I say 'claims' because the engineers or manual writers clearly are not as creative as you are in trying to wring as much utility out if this unit as possible.

I can't find an answer but I would offer this - if you are recording anything though any AVR, as soon as you choose to monitor the audio the digital input is usually disabled.

And I would be curous to hear more about what you're doing and how you finally achieve it.

How can an old vcr analog connect to a new digital tv

Although the TV is digital, the market has not dumped the analog compatibility (yet). You can connect your VCR through the RF input, using channel 2, 3 or 4 (depending on your VCR) to view your video collection. Or, you can connect your VCR by RCA cables to the composite video input. Most TVs now have only 1 or 2 composite inputs (Yellow, White, Red). They are sometimes shared, serving as a component input as well (Green, Blue, Red, White, Red). For these TVs, you will notice a yellow circle or some other marking around the Green connection indicating that it is also a composite input. When connecting to such an input, remember to connect the white (and red if your VCR has one) to the white (again, red applies) to the audio input jacks of this video input. I hope this was of some assistance and not too confusing.
