Would a new basket drive help?

Whirlpool washer CA2000XMO0 Coin operated ...bought in 1982..belt drive...has been used as only washer in 8 plex. The problem is that after putting in the new motor and timer the basket spins while agitating. The lid latch is not working ...don't think that is the cause. The clothes gets twisted and throw water ands soap out. Can't find anything on the internet with that problem...seems to be unique. Would putting a new basket drive be the solution. I don't know why putting a new motor in would make the transmission go bad. It worked fine before.

Not that unique, whats happening is the transmission has a wig wag and shift cam bars that are not moving at the right time. you probably have an open coil on the wig wag and its normal for them to do this when a coil fails. just take the 5/16 screw out of the wig wag and lift it off the plungers, then replace it with a new one. all should work correctly after that.

ok so now i have seen your ? 4 times and you dont need a basket drive either.
you might want to make sure you didnt unhook a wire from the wig wag when you changed the motor and it could also be the cam bars are just stuck, which ever, just look at the wig wag and bars. that will be your area to repair.

Sears gave me an estimate of $1439.65 to repair machine by replacing the following: 1 SUB TUB-OUTE - 213.82 1 GASKET - 12.16 1 SUB TUB-OUTE - 411.91 1 SUB BASKET - 492.69 1 BELT ...

Check your warranty. We just had that problem, with the exact same parts replaced, but the outer tub has a ten year warranty, and the basket a lifetime warranty. We just paid labor and for one belt. Our washer is also almost eight years old.

How to change the belt in my whirlpool washing

It's probably the washer transmission. Belts aren't common anymore & besides it wouldn't work at all if there was a belt broken.

Maytag coin-op top load wont spin, motor runs, belt burns.

it not a belt, there is a $20 plastic and rubber coupling between the motor and the transmission that has broken.  It needs replacing.
