I have a compaq presario r3000 which is having a lighting problem. I removed the inverter and lcd from my other compaq presario r3000 (which work fine) and switched them w/ the lcd and inverter in my compaq with the bad lighting. The laptop was still dim (not dark). When i placed my "bad" lcd and inverter in my other laptop they worked fine. Since my problem is not the lcd or the inverter, i am lost as to what to do next. It's not my laptop button that when pressed makes the screen dark. I think i should clear up that my screen is not dark. I can see images just fine, however, it is not as bright as it once was. I can still use it, but it's a nuisance when i have to use it at night.
Sounds like the auto-dim in the BIOS is set too low. Fortunately the Compaq R3000 allows you to adjust the brightness right from the keyboard. Hold down the [FN] function key while tapping the [F8] key will brighten the screen, while [FN]-[F7] will dim it. The settings are different for running on AC power and battery, so you must do each individually.

thank you so much, i feel so stupid. It always is a simple problem like that. I'm a bit pissed that i opened two Compaq's for nothing but at least I got some experience out of it. Thanks again.
