ZANUSSI ELECTROLUX -- FRIDGE (TOP HALF) NOT WORKING?

Hi there,

I have a Zanussi Electrolux model ZEBF250W and have had it for approx 4 years. It has a problem where the top half (fridge part) isn't cooling anymore? The bottom half (freezer) is working still.

I noticed at the back of the fridge/freezer, there's an insulated pipe (I think) which has ice forming around it in small sections (where the pipe comes out of the unit).

Is it a problem easily solved/fixed - or should I buy a new unit??

Kind thanks.

Just thought I'd add - I have tried defrosting the unit, and left it unplugged for about a week.

    Thanks.

Kind thanks Chuck for your help buddy!
I know where the fan is located - so I'll have a look at it today to see if it's stuck etc.

If it appears fine - I think I might just buy a new unit.
Kind thanks for your help and a Happy new year to you!

    regards.

    HI AGAIN.

I'VE CHECKED THE FAN - AND IT IS WORKING AND SPINNING FREELY. I'VE LEFT THE FAN COVER OFF - SO I CAN MONITOR IT.

THE GREEN LIGHT HAS STOPPED FLASHING (BUT THIS NORMALLY FLASHES AGAIN AFTER A DAY OR SO). THE AIR FLOW IN THE TOP HALF - I'VE OPENED IT TO THE MAX, AND I'VE TURNED THE OUTER TEMP CONTROL TO MAX - TO SEE WHETHER THE TOP HALF COOLS OR NOT.

ANY OTHER INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
    THANKS

9 times out of ten, when the freezer portion works, and the refrigerator portion doesn't, it is the evaporator fan that is the problem. I am not familiar with that model, so I do not know where the fan is located. But there is a fan that blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge portion. Usually, a fan blade is just stuck, and just needs to be repositioned or the bearing the motor spins on could be frozen or rusty. I little household oil usually does the trick, or you might need a new fan motor.

Another possible cause is the ice that can build up. If there is ice blocking the air's path it will have the same result. You said you had defrosted the unit, so this is not likely in your case

If ice is buiding up its usually due to the defrost system not working. There is a timer located at the rear to the right of the compressor which every so often turns on the defrost cycle. To check it , remove the plastic box and with a screwdriver turn the clock around until it clicks. This is then on the defrost cycle. After a short time water should start to drip out onto the top of the compressor. If it does not , the heater may be faulty. If it fails to stop defrosting and move back to freezing , the timer is faulty.

Can i turn the freezer part of my fridge of so i can defrost the bottom part n leave the top part on , i have a zanussi electrolux

no your model is a single compressor which runs both frdge and freezer.. freezer is supposed to be frost free however freezing elements can be overwhelmed with frost if door has been left open. there is a drain hole behind the back panel of the freezer that can block or freeze up causing water to flow in tp the freezer and turn to ice. complete defrost and check that drain hole is clear to fix it.

Hi - we had this problem, and it was in fact where some blood from a defrosting pice of meat drained into the compressor condensation tank and began to decay!

I agree the smell is terrible, so a good clean up is needed but this solves the problem immediately!

Kind regards,

Fridge does not cool

lo1972

Sounds like ice built up on the evaporator coils inside the freezer. thus hindering air flow to the refridgerator section. Is there ice build up in the freezer? This is assuming the temperature control didn't get changed inadverttily.

Hope this helps

Power light flashing on & off

Try to unplug and plug the power cord this may help, flashes is an error code. Try also the defrosting, error codes alarm the owner if there are some abnormal operation int the unit.

Zanussi fridge freezer

sounds like the freezer evaporator has iced /frosted up and you will not get cold airflow through it. try a 24 hour defrost to clear it. then check fridge cooling.
