Sewing machine and manual for sale - why not correspond with the seller to offer to purchase a copy of the instruction manual photographed on the sale site?
Check that you are installing the needle correctly, that the machine is threaded properly. Use only fresh, good quality thread--no bargain bin or old thread. Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. Check that the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly. Make sure the feed dogs are up and the stitch length is set to at least #2. If you are still having problems, it could need some adjustment.
Go to www.singerco.com and under customer support, you will see instruction manuals, enter 3116 and you can download it for free. If, you bought from JoAnn Fabric they give free lessons on the use of your machine.
I don't think that Viking allows free downloads. I think that you have to buy one from them, either their site or at a Viking sewing center, ie JoAnn Fabrics

You can download the instruction manual for free instantly. Or pay $15 for a hard copy. Some attachments are available for purchase on the website, others you can purchase at JoAnn Fabrics. Good Luck.
