If I would buy a Onkyo TX-NR616 in the US (110V) and take it Europe (220V), wouldn't it be a solution to simply exchange the power transformer for a 220v one?

Sorry if it's obvious but just confirming that you are able to covert the 110v system to a 220v system with no hassles ??

An stepdown transformer is needed should you buy in US and use it Europe

However, if your on a technical side , trace the primary windings , and check

There are European versions which are already 220V, no need to convert.

    Rommel,

    Thanks for your reaction.
A transformeris the obvious way out, but was wondering if I could set the 220V power supply of my old Onkyo into this new one. Or if it is possible to order a 220v supply for the tx-nr616 as if it was broked and neede replacement.?

The reason I want to buy it in the US, is because it is twice more expensive in Europe.

if you are only here in our country , it would not take about 2 hours to rebuilt it, and convert to 220V
you mentioned broke? is is totally shorted? have you tried running it alone?
i will look for replacement on line :)

here is a link , which of the two (2) transformer are you referring to small or big?

  • Anonymous Sep 27, 2012

look closely if it is just open and not shorted , could be thermal fuse , i can see it from the image

  • Anonymous Sep 27, 2012

looking closely also indicates it is good only for 110V

  • Anonymous Sep 27, 2012

with a multimeter check resistance of the white and violet wire , if there is a resistance near or about two (2) ohms, it might probably be OK, unless fuse breaks when turn On

test also the two terminals of the primary windings with a multimeter. If it is good then the small transformer ( standby ) is the problem

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR804 power supply

If you imply an AC voltage transformer by saying "power supply", I don't believe it will be difficult to find one. If you stay in Istanbul, I recommend that you go to "Dogubank". You can choose from a wide variety of options at that place. All you have to pay attention is that the AC frequency (Hz) of the transformer you're about to purchase. It must be around 50Hz to operate your amp.

If i accidentally plugged it to 220 volts and it was burned in a seconds can it be repaired?

Good day sir/maam, Yes it can be repaired. if you have plugged in a 110v device to a 220v ac mains, chances are its toast, your onkyo's power transformer is burnt, the repair is replacing the toast power amplifier, or we usually rewind the power transformer specification, after the replacement, you may need to check the power supply section for shorted power regulators, and rectifiers. If you choose to send it for repairs, the service is usually reasonable.

Receiver does not power on. standby not on either. receiver is the onkyo tx-sr501

The standby light should be on. If it is not, then check the main fuse. WIth the unit unplugged, remmove hte top cover and check the fuse by the line cord. If that is ok, then you will need to check the primary winding on the standby transformer. That transformer has a thermal fuse internally located and that sometimes gets blown due to a power surge. If you do not have the equipment to test this, get a detailed estimate from a local servicer. The standby transformer usually costs arounf $25 or so.

SR573... Does it support NTSC/PAL?.

There's no mention of either NTSC or PAL in any spec sheet.

This link leads to Onkyo and the rear view of the amp lacks the voltage selector.

http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR573&class=Receiver&p=s

The manual for the similar model SR575 says the North American model does not have the voltage selector. Too bad. Under the general specs for the variants of this family of receivers they list the following power specs. I have no idea where you have to go to buy one from the "Others" group.

Power Supply North American: AC 120 V, 60 Hz
European: AC 230 V, 50 Hz
Others: AC 120/220-240 V, 50/60 Hz
AC 220 V, 50/60 Hz

Some aliases for the SR575=
TX-SR505
TX-SR505E
TX-SR8550
TX-SR575

You could do what I did over 30 years ago. Join the Army, go overseas and buy one in the PX. Every HiFi product we bought in the PX in the 70's had the dual voltage feature.

How powerful loudspeakers can my Onkyo TX-SV444 tackle, maintaining good sound?

buy 6ohms or 8 ohms speakers. 4ohms consume too much power and sometimes causes short circuit. (safety first!)

Wrong valtage

I am not sure what your question is but if you purchased the U.S. version and it is 110V and you are somewhere where there are 220V, you will need to purchase a stepdown transformer for it to work properly.
