The open/close button will not open the dvd tray and a "locked" message appears in the window.
The tray on my Toshiba DVD player is locked, and will not open, either via the remote control or the button on the unit itself. Page 32 of my user's manual says to Press SETUP button, then press the number button 2005, to lock and to unlock the tray. However, there is no number button 2005 on the remote control, and I cannot enter numbers in the SETUP mode, except for the PARENTAL LOCK, which takes a 4 digit code. However, when I enter 2005 at that part of the menu, nothing happens.
If anyone has a solution, thank you for providing such.
I will tell you what DID work. I finally unplugged the DVD player and opened the housing, accessing the motor. In order to access it, I unplugged the electrical connection of the motor to the motherboard (or equivalent). When I reconnected things, after ensuring that the motor was OK, it now works! I think in disconnecting the electrical connection of the motor to the motherboard, I reset something.

The Disc Tray is Locked
If the message “Tray Locked” appears on the screen, the retail lock feature has
been accidentally engaged. To unlock the disc tray you must press and hold a
combination of keys simultaneously:
On the front panel of the DVD Player, press and hold the STOP, ON•OFF and
OPEN•CLOSE buttons for at least 3 seconds.
I forget the password Your player is equipped with a “back-door” unlock sequence. Press and hold
the STOP button on the front of the DVD Player and the STOP button on the
remote control at the same time. (Hold both buttons down at the same time
for at least 3 seconds).
Do not have better news. You can unscrew the player, and see if dust is stuck in the gear that controls the dvd opener, or check the online dvd repair guys. But, really, it is cheaper/less of a hassle to get a new one.
Hey I just found out how to UNLOCK the tray Power up the unit, wait for it to read the disc if one is inserted. hold the stop button and the power button down together for 5 seconds the display will show UNLOCKED Open/close button should be restored
To unlock, manually press and HOLD the open/close button & the stop button simultaneously, and HOLD them both down until the lock picture disappears. The DVD will eject when you press the open/close button.
To lock the DVD inside the machine, repeat the same step, and it will lock it inside.
