HelloIf the Laser Pickup Unit's Lens has accumuated with dust this type of fault can be occur. Just put a lens cleaning disc [can be bought from most of the electronic spare part selling shops at your town]. play it for two times atleast, and see whether it helps you. If not, make sure that the Laser Pickup Unit is faulty and should be repalced with same type and number. OK.

The problem of your remote may be the battery terminal or the sensor,checking the led sensor without using a tester, you should have a cellphone with a camera, point the sensor of your remote in to the camera lens then press any button then look in to the lcd monitor of your cellphone you will notice that their is a red glowing light, if no. try to check the battery terminal specially the one that is connected in the pcb you should remove the housing of your remote then if properly connected try to replace the led sensor. Some advice, do not throw your original remote cause universal remote has limited function sometimes you cannot accessed the main menu.

The only things you can try are , clean the disc first then the laser (you can buy laser cleaner disks cheap) worth having one, if this fails it may nead a replacement laser drive.

This usually happens when the DVD or laser lens pick-up has become dirty.All you need to do is

1. Check the disk for scratches.

2. Make sure the disk you are using fit the correct format specified by your DVD player.

3. Clean the laser lens with a DVD laser cleaning disk.

4. Insert a correctly formatted undamaged disk into your player,listen to see if it begins to read the disk,if it continues to make no sound.

5. Open the DVD player carefully and clean the lens with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swab.

6. If none of these solutions works out then a professional repair technician will be able to tell you if fixing your DVD player is worth the money.

Throw the thing out with the rubbish. The repair cost and parts will exceed what the item is worth. Go out to the shop and purchase a new one. New DVD players are relatively cheap and they come with more bells and whistles.

It seems that there is a Problem with Power Supply Board. If under Warranty, get it Replaced / Repaired. Unless, Open the DVD player and then look for Power Supply Board. It would be a board with Caps and Ribbons and Connectors. Pull out the Board. You would be able to see either Swelled / Leaked Caps or Bulged Caps. Also, make sure there is no Cold Solder Joints. Once you find them, Pull out the Caps. Go to Radio Shack and Order the same. You could also Purchase it from many Online Vendors. Once you get them, Solder them back on and it would be all set. There is NO Point of sending the Unit for Repair as it would cost you more than the New One. The Bad Caps usually have ammonia kind of odor.

A DVD plays in "Letterbox" format. To have full screen, the TV settings need to be changed to full screen, or zoom. Found in the TV menu of most TV's.

Try inserting a cd, almost all dvd players can play cds as well, if it displays the same message you may very well have a defective dvd player, if it plays then you may have a damaged disc. If it plays the cd try a mint condition dvd; also, I'll assume that you know better but in many cases if the dvd player is not defective users are simply loading dvds in upside down. If all this fails return your dvd player to the store or check the warrenty.

I would suggest calling the manufacture of the universal remote or your local cable/satellite provider. One of the two should be able to provide remote code.

Anyhow, if you have the benefit of a capacitance meter with DF function, check the main filter caps all of the smaller caps. The quality and durability of electrolytics is bad and getting worse and once one of these fails anywhere in a feedback path, the supply will not start. HF is hell on electrolytics.
The (ferrite) transformer in a switcher measures very low on the Ohms scale; depending on power handling and service frequency, primary <<100 Ohms, secondary from 0.? - 10 Ohms between taps, because they operate at higher frequencies. The 50 volts from the diode bridge is way too low; you probably have failed 100-200 uFd. electrolytics right close to them although this is fairly rare since they are only working with 120 Hz. From a 120 VAC line, you should have ~ 160-170 DC volts at no load if the caps are still working as they should and you have no notable resistance between the AC and the diodes.
Well-designed switchers are wonderfully efficient and very reliable if the maker didn't cheat on component quality. I've repaired literally thousands as a sideline in a now retired business and after studying them and adding a ceramic cap.or two and better quality electrolytics, they will run for decades. At one time, I had standard repair prices on ~ 70 different models.
My guarantee was 'lifetime' and that was limited only because I retired.
