You just have to gently pull it doward.  It should unplug relatively easily.  To reinstall it, just plug it in it's shaft.

SOURCE: Maytag dishwasher with a spray arm that is stopped

We have a dwu7400 so i'm not sure it is the same, but above the top arm you should see a serrated ring (looks a bit like a flower petal) and that should spin off and the arm should come with it. There's a snap that holds those pieces together that if you squeeze it with your fingers you can get it out. Just reverse that to put it back together.

Maytag Dishwasher W10199645 the top rack is not getting washed. Help needed.

The Maytag spray arms always get clogged and stop spinning. There is no easy way to remove the food matter from the inside of the spray arm after it gets pretty filled....UNTIL NOW...Drill a 1/4" hole on each end of the spray arm on the top. This method works for either spray arm, but be careful to leave at least 1/8" of distance from the two small holes that spray out water, when you drill the hole. Then using a Dremel tapered stone grinding bit enlarge the hole to 5/16" to accommodate a stainless steel 5/16" plug with the inside hex head. Also use the fine thread, not the course thread, as it will screw more securely onto the thin stainless gage arm and will last. Grind to enlarge the hole a little at a time to make sure your plugs thread into the arm snugly. I have been using our modified arms on our Maytag for over a year and we now have consistently sparkling, clean dishes. We run the washer twice per day and clean out the arms at least once per week which takes only two or three minutes.

I have maytag jet clean quiet plus II model mbd6000aww. The jets are not spinning and the water is not spraying. I was hoping to get some DIY assistance. Thank you. Jennifer

The most common thing I've seen causing this is when the holes in the spray arms ore clogged. Take the spray arms off and check the holes carefully for debris and clean out whatever you find.

Top spray arms dont work.

Most likely you have debris blocking the holes in the spray arms. The spray arms can be removed and cleaned out in your sink. (blocked holes in the lower spray arm arm almost impossible to clean out)

The top rack is not cleaning. When I've run a test, it seems like the top "arm" is not turning or spraying water.

Check the spray arm opening/holes for clogging with debris. If clogged, remove the debris from the holes. Then position the spray arm in a certain position and operate the dishwasher for a minute and stop and check the position of the spray arm. If in the same position, then the arm may not be receiving water from the water pump and/or upper water inlet housing/tubing. Contact an appliance service company.

Residue and small particles left in upper rack dishes and glasses. maytag mbh940aww dishwasher. Is there a filter to clean?

Hi,

Probably a blocked spray arm. Remove the top spray arm and check and clean all the holes as this is where the water sprays out from to clean the dishes and glasses. When they are blocked you get poor wash results.

Yes there will also be a filter in the base of the unit to clean. This needs to be done regularly to avoid food getting into the working parts of the unit.

My top rack is not getting clean, it appears spray arm is not dispersing water, can it get clogged?

Yes it can get plugged. Any debris pumped up to the arm can get lodged into the tiny holes. Also, sometimes the arm itself becomes split along the joint between the lower and upper half. Remove the arm to inspect, clean, and repair/replace the arm if split. I fixed our Maytag spray arm when it split, by drilling a series of small holes along the split parts and sewing the thing back together with fairly fine copper wire. Still working great after a number of years. The small spray holes can be poked clean with a heavy needle and the arm vacuumed out. If after all this it still won't spray properly, the intake screen at the bottom of the lower spray arm tower may need to be cleaned as well. Remove components starting with the spray arm and work your way down, noting placement and orientation of each piece. Remove the screen, and soak it in hot water, detergent and white vinegar for an hour or so. Check all holes in the deck for any food plugging. Reassemble in reverse order and check the lower spray arm for plugging as well. Hope some of this helps!

Top arm not spinning

only the top rack isnt getting clean?
there is a little plastic circle in the middle of the bottom of the upper spray arm. turn it counter clock wise to pull the upper spray arm from the upper rack. make sure that isnt clogged and the spray holes are not clogged. otherwise....

the piece that the bottem spray arm plugs into and runs along the back wall of the tank to the top is called a feed tube. pull the bottom spray arm out. now you can see the part of the feed tube that feeds the upper spray arm water. does it pop out freely and easily? if so then you need a new feed tube, if not then its most likely your not achieving the right water level or your impeller connected to your circulation pump(motor) is clogged not supplying enough water pressure to travel up the feed tube to spin the upper spray arm.

I have a maytag mdb4000aww dish washer. The dishes aren't getting consistently clean. I wanted to clean the trap/filter. There's two ports towards the front side. The one on the right i was able to...

Hi
The port on the left is the float it has no filter don’t try to remove it. To get your dishes cleaner: step one, each time you wash run the tap water in your sink till it’s hot. Step two, buy what’s called “dishwasher magic” use that every 2-3 months. Three, use rinse aid. Four, check the sprayer arms, make sure all the holes are clear and that they spin freely when the dishwasher is loaded. There is the possibility that the interior motor area needs to be cleaned, if you’re handy you can remove the lower spray arm and the cover, lift that up to expose the interior motor area, this is fairly involved, if you’re not comfortable you should call for repair, it shouldn’t cost too much.
