Yeah, the same thing is happening to me. It is stuck at the Refresh Database screen, but every half a minute or so it gets a weird white screen and it kinda gets pixilated, then it goes to the start-up screen, then back to Refresh Database. What do I do?

  • Sethrity Nov 09, 2007

I just reccently had the same problem , it would freeze at the refresh state get stuck right around The end of refresh and then go white , then restard and try to refresh over again . Which the whole process keeps repeating itself . I wounder if there is any way to take it to some store and have them fix it or at the very least have reboot it to a clean state , like it was when in the box?

yea i have the same problem... i recently added a list of mp3s into the palyer by merely copying and pasting into the music folder of the Sansa player but when it was restarted it would never complete the refresh database process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I previously downloaded new music onto my mp3 player and half way through the refresh mode my mp3 blacked out. I turned it on and off and it happened again. I then plugged it into my computer and it then did the same. The screen on my mp3 player sometimes turns dark blue, red, dark blue and white stripes, or gray.

The Same thing happened to Me once. All you have to do is reformat it. You can do this by first putting the player in recovery mode. You can do this by putting the hold button on the side where you can see the orange and then plug the device into the computer while holding the power/Menu button. Then go to my computer to Verify that it came up as 16MB-Format. Then you can type into the address bar and type in http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/rhapsody-1.0.2.165.zip. then once you do that right click on the file you downloaded and select open with compressed folder and drop and drag to the 16MB-Format drive. In the 16MB-Format drive folder select file menu and select New - Folder and rename it sansa.fmt then press enter to save. Finally move the hold switch back and disconnect the device and look at the screen and verify it is formatting and resetting once it's done and finishes the updates restart and if needed pick your language. check and see if you can use your player.

Haha, Go to your computer with the device plugged in, right click, hit format... and it wipes everything, than sync. And it won't freeze at refresh database!

1. hook sansa mp3 player back into computer
2. hold button until it turns completely off while still connected
3. turn sansa player back on while still connected to computer
4. disconnect usb cable IN THE MIDDLE of the writing process
5. if you disconnect before the "connected" phase, this somehow resets the chip to "stand alone" mode

this worked for me "WAR - EAGLE " go AU tigers :)

I had the same problems, first i could not load songs once I did it would lock up. So I tried the sansa suggestions, change to MSC reload firmware niether worked but now it would lock up on the refresh screen. I did not want try to format the unit so I started trying different things. What I found was when loading songs thru Windows media player some songs had album titles and some did not. Most times the songs without album titles would load but then the player would lock at the refresh screen. Resolution was to remove the album title from each song, Once I did I was able to upload all the songs I wanted, the system did not lock up on either screen and is working with no issues now.

It keeps saying that its refresing database and is not loading

first try this...

1 put on hold and hold record button while u turn on (your sansa is now in recovery mode)
2 connect your sansa to your comp via usb cable a box should show up saying the firmware version
3 close the window and disconnect your sansa (it will restart)

if that doesnt fix your problem try this...

1 connect your sansa to comp via usb cable
2 right click start on windows desktop go to explore
3 scroll down to your sansa's drive rifght click it go to properties
4 go to tools tab and click "check now" under error checking will take awhile and will erase your memory on the sansa but it will probably work again

I hope my post was helpful let me know!!!!

Continous refresh database

I've got the same problem too. I read this on another website: 'well firstly drain the battery and then connect it to charge it up a bit. once it has been there for 5min or so take it off and then turn it on>settings>USB Mode>MSC once you have done that connect it up and it should work/recognise the player. i don''t know how this thingy happens but this is just how i fixed mine!' I'm gonna try it now on mine, and see if it works. I've just got to wait now... Good luck with yours.
