SOURCE: iPod Backlight Broken

I thought my ipod was broken but i did something to make it brighter:
Go to settings and scroll to brightness (i guess it should be right under backlight timer in the menu)
There you will need to scroll clockwise and you will see your screen get brighter.
Anyway I have a ipod video I'm not sure if it's the same as the other ipod series.

SOURCE: 20" lg LCD backlight turns off after about 5 seconds of use.

First, check the power supply for the backlight. It's usually a 24 volt supply. Look for swollen caps. If that is ok, go to the inverter board and inspect for damage, ohm out the inverter transformers. Last is to test out the lamps seperately with an external inverter. If a lamp goes out this way, it is bad and causing the whole backlight to go out.

SOURCE: 26" LCT HDTV Backlight Problem

It can be that the inverter is not getting the 24vdc fromt he power supply module, check for that first, you can check it at either the power supply termninals or at the inverter board. Look to see if the power supply has any leaking/bulging top caps. Modules are easy to replace, fixing it down to component level is not so easy unless you have proper tools an electronics knowledges.

The lcd screen on my jl 250 dosent light up i switch on

If the LCD screen on your JL Audio JX250/1 amplifier is not lighting up when you turn it on, there may be a few possible causes:

• Faulty power connection: Check that the amplifier is receiving power by verifying that the power light is illuminated. If the power light is not on, there may be a problem with the power connection, fuse or wiring.
• Blown backlight: If the power light is on but the LCD screen is not illuminated, the backlight may be blown. In this case, the LCD screen may still display information, but it will not be visible without a backlight.
• Faulty LCD screen: If neither the power light nor the LCD screen are illuminated, there may be a problem with the LCD screen itself. This could be due to a faulty display panel, cable or connector.

My toshiba L35-S2161 the monitor only displays lines in colors, what to do to fix it

Since you diagnosed by using an external VGA monitor, you now know the fault lies in either the Video Cable, or the Display Assembly.

Your graphics chipset is good.
(Also known as GPU. Graphics Processing Unit )

A) Video Cable:
(Toshiba = LCD FL Cable )

See if the connections are good. Check the motherboard side connection of the Video Cable, AND the LCD screen side connection.

A loose connection can do this.

1) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/taking-apart-laptop-1.htm

2) http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/remove-notebook-screen.htm

(On both links above you can click on the photos to enlarge )

Observe the sheath of the Video Cable for obvious signs of damage.
If the cable looks pinched, stretched, or torn, the tiny wires inside the cable may be damaged also.

Best method is to remove the Video Cable, and perform a continuity test of the wires inside the cable, with a multimeter.
(An economical unit can be purchased for around $8 to $12.
Analog or digital is fine )

B) Display Assembly:

Video Cable checks out OK;

1) Check the connections to the screen Inverter board.
Make sure they are tight. Make sure the Inverter board does not appear to be damaged.

2) Screen Inverter board:

Primer;
An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD_screen

A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight is usually a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

The Toshiba Satellite L35-S2161 Notebook PC, uses a CCFL for a Backlight. (Uses 1 CCFL)

CCFL stands for Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick, and is close to the width of the LCD screen in question, Long )

A screen Inverter converts the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the Backlight and LCD screen.

It is located behind the Display Mask, (Display Bezel), and mounted towards the bottom of the LCD screen.

http://www.zkarlo.com/selected-zkarlo-part/inverter-board-p2215.php

A bad screen Inverter usually causes a garbled display, or doesn't light the Backlight up.

To test a screen Inverter you need a sensitive multimeter, or use a spare Backlight bulb that is known to be good.

Bulb lights up the Inverter is good, the Backlight in the LCD screen assembly, is bad.

[ The LCD screen is composed of layers. These layers are held in place by a metal Screen Frame. {Resembles a picture frame }

The Screen Frame comes apart.

Screws are removed, and the Screen Frame comes apart in four pieces, (Four sides), or the Screen Frame comes apart in two pieces as an Upper half, and Lower half.

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L35/big/satellite-L35-screen-08.jpg

The Backlight bulb is taped to one side of the LCD screen layers, and is under that side of the Screen Frame.

The LCD screen layers MUST be kept aligned, as they were from the factory. For this reason alone, it is tedious for an experienced technician, and is usually not done at the consumer, or DIY level.

My toshiba satellite a215-s7472 screen is very dim can hardly see anything what do I do too fix it I tried ajusting the light .

Primer:

An LCD screen does not produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.
(Two present technologies being used)

The Toshiba Satellite A215-S7472 Notebook PC uses a CCFL.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm by 334mm. In inches that is;
Approximately a little thicker than 1/16th of an inch Thick, and a little over 13 inches Long)

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

Point of all this?

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad Inverter

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a215/disassemble-display-panel-1.htm

http://www.zkarlo.com/selected-zkarlo-part/inverter-board-p907.php

HOWEVER, the Backlight bulb is located inside the Screen Frame, of the LCD display assembly.

An LCD screen is composed of layers. These layers are held in a specific pattern, by the LCD screen frame.

This is a thin metal frame which surrounds the LCD screen layers, and has Philips head screws which hold the frame together.

NOTE*
The procedure is fairly intricate.

Hp g5000 sreen does not light up as usal, i can see a the start up when i shine a torch at the sreen, what do i need to do to get working.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional source of light.
A Backlight is used as the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to the Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

The LCD screen is a composite of layers, surrounded by a thin metal frame that resembles a picture frame.
To one side of the LCD screen layers, and under the frame is usually where the Backlight is mounted.
[Note* Two Backlights are used in some models]

Replacing a Backlight is more labor intensive than replacing an Inverter.
Due to this, and the cost, the LCD screen itself is replaced as a unit most of the time, when it comes to Backlight replacement.

Example of a replacement LCD screen for the HP G5000 series of Notebook PC's,

https://www.screentekinc.com/HP_G5000_Series--15.4-inch--1280x800-wxga-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

[Note* Stating HP G5000 is just stating the model series. When buying replacement parts the EXACT Model Number should be used. This information is located on the bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag.

When replacing an LCD screen, the model number of the replacement LCD screen should be matched to the existing LCD screen's Model Number.
Inverters and LCD screens are matched together. Make sure you get the correct part]

An Inverter is used to provide power from the laptop to the LCD screen, and to the Backlight.

Note* 90 Percent of the time the problem is a bad Inverter.

Example of an Inverter for an HP G5000 series notebook PC,

http://www.zlectronic.com/product/INVERTER-FOR-HP-DAC-07B035-DAC-09B017-DV5000-G5000.html

The LCD screen, Top Cover, Display Bezel, Inverter, Backlight, and various screws, make up the Display Assembly.
The Display Bezel made of plastic surrounding the LCD screen, and in front of the LCD screen is removable.
Behind it is easy access to the Inverter.

The Inverter is approximately 4 inches long, and the width of a No.1 pencil.
Usually located at the bottom of the LCD screen, and right behind the Bezel.

This article shows replacing an Inverter and LCD screen on a Compaq Presario v2000 series Notebook PC,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-lcd-screen-inverter-compaq-presario-v2000-laptop/

This pictorial guide is not for the HP G5000 series Notebook PC, but the models are very similar when it comes to Inverter replacement.
The above link is to show you what is involved.

The backlight won't turn on but occasionally will flicker.

Suggest you replace the Inverter. A Backlight goes out all at once.
90% of the time the Inverter is the hardware part at fault.

[ An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself.
A Backlight is used to supply the needed extra lighting.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a much smaller scale

An Inverter is used to required power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
Boosts power up for the LCD screen, brings it down for the Backlight.

Dell Support > Latitude D600 Notebook PC > Service Manual

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/en/sm/index.htm

Replacing an Inverter is a simple job. Replacing a Backlight is not.
The Backlight is located within the LCD screen assembly.

The metal frame of the LCD screen assembly is removed along the edge where the Backlight is located, to access replacing the Backlight.

In the above list for Service Manual, click on > Display Assembly and Display Latch.

This information shows you where the Inverter is located on a Dell Latitude D620 Notebook PC.
The Latitude D620 is part of the Latitude D600 series of Notebook PC's.

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-replace-lcd-screen-dell-latitude-d620-laptop/

Just one place from a quick search, that sells Inverters for a Latitude D600 series Notebook PC,

http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=2895

MATCH the part number listed that they have, to the part number on your Inverter.
You have to have THE correct Inverter.

Monitor on a emachine 250 computer comes on picture is very light faded in the background but no light

This is a typical symptom of a failing LCD screen inverter board or LCD screen backlight lamp. The backlight lamp failure symptoms are very similar to the inverter board failure symptoms. If you have to guess which one is causing the problem, try replacing the inverter board first. LCD screen inverter boards fail more often than the LCD screen backlight lamps.

Screen is to dark. cannot see letters very well.

Suggest you press the Fn key And the key to increase brightness, first. (Should be a key that has a sun icon on it)

Barring this does not increase the visibility of your LCD screen, the I suggest the Backlight is bad, or the Inverter.

The Backlight is a type of CCFL tube (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) mounted to the LCD screen. The LCD screen needs the light given off of the Backlight.

Replacing the Backlight is a daunting task, and if done wrong, will cause possible damage to the LCD screen.

The LCD screen itself has a thin metal frame holding the components of the LCD screen together. This frame must usually be opened on the side that has the backlight, to access the backlight. The components that make up an LCD screen are fragile, and can easily be damaged.

The Inverter supplies power to the LCD screen, as well as the Backlight.
Inverters do go bad, but commonly it's the Backlight to go first.

This shows a typical Backlight replacement. It IS not an advertisement to attempt this yourself, but a reference tool for information.

LCD display

Could be a lot of things: here is general tips for no backlight:

First if there is a suspend switch (usually right below the LCD sticking out of the notebook) make sure its not pushed down.

second: Did the LCD have a red tint before it failed? if not its probably the inverter. If it did then its probably the backlight, but its best to test the inverter using a known good LCD first.

If you dont have one, then any repair shop that deals with laptops4.gif should be able to diagnose this pretty quickly (you shouldnt pay more than a 1/2-3/4 hour labor to take apart and diagnose.

if it really needs a backlight, it is a very difficult thing to replace the backlight - i see more people break the screen or electronics on the LCD trying to replace a backlight. always try an inverter first which is only about $20-$50 for the dells.

Its usually comparable in cost to buy an LCD ($100-$200 for the part on most models) than replace the backlight (150-220 is the typical labor charges i have seen. Just find out the part number of the LCD to match up a replacement. Try Bliss which sells screens on ebay - nice company to deal with and has a wide variety of screens,
