I have a Sony KP-65XBR10W TV. It is a HD capable TV and I just started subscribing to HD programs through AT&T U-Verse using a DVR box. The problem is that while viewing HD programming the screen intermittently turns black for a split second and then comes back on with DTV 1080i and Video 5 captions on the top and bottom of the screen in addition to the TV picture. The captions go away in 10 seconds or so. How many times and when it will do it is unpredictable but it is quite annoying. Is there a fix for this?

I just posted this to another Sony owner:
Another point; HD Ready does not mean that it is HD compatible without the addition of an optional part.
The title only implies that it can be adapted to HD reception.
If you did not purchase it with the set, check your user guide to see what you need to make it whole.
You may have to seek this add-on on eBay since it is not guaranteed that Sony will still offer it.
You might want to check this:

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions

The problem is your cable box. I know you said you replaced it, but I work on TV's everyday and, sorry to say this but cable box HDMI outputs have serious issues, like no or intermittent sound and video. I have seen customers exchange their cable boxes 5 and 6 times and still have the problem. Your best bet is to use the component outputs of your cable box, visually you will not see a picture difference between component and HDMI when using a cable box. Your other solution is to get satellite; I have NEVER seen an HDMI issue with a satellite box

This is known issue. The A board need a modification. Parts cost $5 bucks but you need to be good at soldering. You can also get a fixed board for about $200 or a brand new board for about $400. If you search the inernet you sould be able to find the info about this problem at the Tivo community.

Rowdyroddy,
Thanks you so much for this info.
I had the same problem with my Sony KW-57wv600. Blue screen turns black after a few seconds, and then standby light flashes seven times.
I called a local TV technician, and described problem. I was told it would not be cost effective to fix. After reviewing the "simple" instructions given on www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html I figured I had nothing to lose.
10 minutes to remove front panel, a "very slight" turn of a screw, and TV worked again perfectly. I could not believe it!
Thank you so much for your help!
SHAME ON SONY FOR NOT POSTING THIS FIX ON THEIR WEBSITE! SHAME ON THE TECHNICIAN AT SONY WHICH INSISTED A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS REQUIRED.
I have always been a fan of Sony, swearing by Sony products exclusively. After this experience, I am now forced to consider some other options when purchasing electronics in the future.
