Failure of convergence

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets. Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEMProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.1d5e2cf.jpgff5b9f6.jpg7deade1.jpgHere is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence. You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem. Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution47a7bc4.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTIONYou will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.comTheir kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video. Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc. BEFORE7c190d8.jpgSet after fluid change. Notice how bright the colors are now. Everthing looks crisp and sharp again. AFTERa798d23.jpg724bcba.pngSolution #2 - CRT FLUID FIXWhat you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

SONY KP-43T75 HAS ISSUES

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My KP-65xbr10w appears dead no life when plugged in.

If you have no indication of power you may have lost all of the voltages to your power supply, including the 5 VDC standby voltage. I am not sure if you can get a new G board, but you should be able to get the individual components that you need. I would look for the cause of the power supply failure first, and I think I would look at your Horzontal Output Transistor. I am thinking it is Q501, Q401 or something like that. I have repaired many of these and the HOT is most likely the problem. A shorted HOT would cause the power supply fusables to blow and the entire set would appear to be dead.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

Sony projection Tv KP-65XBR10W has no picture or sound

I had a Sony recommended serviceman come in to analyze te same problem for me. Turned out to be a major part called the 'D' board. Cost for part around $400 if it could still be gotten and at least $300 in labor. Goodbye TV! My money will be better spent on a replacement LCD/Plasma TV since prices are dropping and picture quality will be dramatically better than the old beast.

KP-65XBR10W Flash of Red!!

It sounds as though both of you have intermittent shorts in the picture tubes which I have seen before. Unfortunately, due to the age of the units and the likely scenario that you will be looking at relacing the other CRT's, it is probably not a good investment to repair the sets. If you are still interested in repairs, there are places that will rebuild the CRT's, but I believe the original parts are no longer available. If you found this solution to your liking, please be sure to rate me. Thanks.

Sony KP-65XBR10W After awhile, shuts off

It sounds as though you have an bad blue CRT. Due to the age of the unit and the likely case that you also have weak green and red CRT's, based on the age, it would probably not be a good investment. Please be sure to rate my response if you found it helpful.

Trinitron XBR Projection - No Picture

When it shuts off. Try doing what's called a self-diagnostic test.
As soon as the television shuts try these steps.

Pressing on the front panel's ?INPUT? and ?MENU? buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds,
activates the Self Diagnostic Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem
has occured since the last Initalization.

Please do Note: The front panel buttons must be used, NOT those on the Remote Control.

? The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
? The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
? The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
? The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: If the Error Code is ?24?, the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four
times.

The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
Self Diagnosic Code Description
1 - 2 = no error detected
2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current)
2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies)
2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection)
2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source).

Certainly, I can help you. I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so you can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new KD board. heres the link.

Good luck..............
